Good morning on the Roubidoux

I've caught some nice smallmouth in the red ribbon section. Only one brown trout down there. Still counted ๐. -
Wrench you ever fish Turkey Farm Lake? Also caught crappie, gills, and readear there with Livie as well.
-
McCredie Farm lake has been regulated for bluegill. Must be 9 inches to keep them. Most fish that I have caught there on one trip was 92 using microjigs. Mostly bluegill, black crappie, and bass. Crappie population took a big dive two years ago. Heard that some guys fished it hard for several weeks keeping stringers of crappie. Small lake like that can't take that kind of pressure. Livie and I fished this lake a lot as well. Enjoyed catching golden shiners as much as the crappie and gills.

I've done well on nice redear sunfish there during the spawn. Bluegill plentiful and some nice size. Catch a lot of small crappie. Large numbers but little size. Would fish it a lot with my daughter. Was close to the house and was always a great go and just catch some fish lake.

Congrats buddy! Nice report. Did you catch any around the treatment outflow? Last time I fished that creek the trout would go on a feed when the discharge started. Did you see any browns in that white ribbon section? -
The best thing about the Superbowl yesterday was the food. I am patting my own back, but was satisfied with every dish. I started on Saturday. I had rabbit and a squirrel from Missouri in the freezer. I tried Hank Shaw's green chile rabbit figuring that once pulled off the bone it could be served on a flour tortilla. I have to say that I do love now cooking with gas. I got a good char on poblano peppers and a jalapeno that I picked up from a local Mexican market. I also picked up Mexican oregano, tomatillos, and espazote as well. I also broiled the tomatillos, onions, and garlic. I blended up the tomatillos, onion, garlic, some of the roasted poblanos and jalapeno in a blender along with fresh cilantro, Mexican oregano, and the espazote and blended into a sauce. I browned the meat in goose fat (via @BilletHead ). Removed the meat and browned half of an onion, then meat added back into the dutch oven along with about 3/4 of the sauce. Simmered the meat for about 90 minutes. Once done the meat and sauce went into the fridge. Yesterday I pulled the meat from the bone and put into a crock pot along with the sauce to serve it warm. Served it with lettuce, cilantro, sour cream, and scallions drizzled with fresh lime juice. Our friend that came over had never had small game and he had a couple of tortillas ! The only reason that he might not have had more was the other snacks that I prepared. I made fresh jalapeno poppers. Half got cream cheese, Colby jack cheese, and panko crumbs. The other half got a modified crab imperial that I considered as Chesapeake poppers. The crab consisted of lump crab meat folded into a mixture of 1/4 cup mayo mixed with 1/2 cup of softened cream cheese, tsp Old Bay, tsp of fresh lemon juice, one beaten egg, and chopped parsley. Topped the stuffed peppers with panko. Then there were the chicken wings. I made teriyaki sauce following a Tyler Florence recipe. Glazed the fried wings with the teriyaki by coating the wings then into the oven to set the glaze put in a bowl and added toasted sesame seeds. Served them with wasabi ranch dressing that we prepared with wasabi paste and ranch dressing. The other batch got my own buffalo sauce recipe - Hot sauce, butter, hickory BBQ sauce, and brown sugar. Also set the glaze in the oven before serving with blue cheese dressing. The game sucked and the commercials were blah!

I love key limes! Used to get them fresh when living in southern Florida. Also used to get fresh lychee fruit and star fruits. Those cookies look great!

Great report Marty. If I was closer, I would be hounding you for your surplus meat and fat! That would be just as a friend trying to keep you from going over you possession limits of course !

I don't usually fish for catfish since it is just not something that I do that often. I have catfished Little Dixie and been successful when I lived in Columbia. I sent you a PM about some things that worked for me.

Congrats for you letting her have the rod. Bet that she will remember that for years to come. Been trying to get my daughter onto some of those freight train fish for her to experience that kind of fight.
-
Nice trip for you guys. Glad to see that she got some quality fish. Congrats to you making memories with your daughter! Not sure how I get called out, but duly noted my friend ๐.

Looks good Ness. What syrup did you use? Hopefully real maple. This morning was Amish cinnamon raisin bread french toast with Folly farm eggs.
-
I agree looks like some really nice browns! Congrats on a great day on the water!
-
@Dutch i know it was not as fruitful a trip as you would have liked. Congrats on helping a friend get that first fish of the year in the boat! Sounds like you worked for those bites.

Congrats buddy on catching a walleye and the cutthroat. Just a little jealous here๐. More about time on the water than the fish. I hope you two catch a bunch today! Looking forwatd to some photos of your daughter's fish.

That's a happy bucket. Congrats on a great fish fry in the making!
-
You are quite welcome! I look forward to seeing more posts. I hope that your family and friends love fish fries.

Always impressed with your trip reports. You are definitely reaping the benefits of putting in your time on the water chasing those crappie. Congrats!
-
No they leave on the 22nd.
-
I'm getting closer to finalizing plans. Looks more probable that I will be there. Will likely be heading straight down to AR and not likely to pick up something before getting down there. Willing to help cook or pick up food do there for a meal.

I agree with Ham fantastic fish. Those are giant crappie. Congrats!

RPS breeding Ozark (and knobfins) sculpin males get that blue-green blush. I have never seen a banded sculpin with that coloration. -

As @Ham mentioned lots of variation in coloration. Your lures look really spot on to me. Here are a variety of sculpin photos to give you some additional ideas. All of the ones above are Ozark sculpin. The top one below is a banded and the other is likely an Ozark but has more of the banded coloration.
