These are a bucket list fish for me. This guy catches to big ones on the same day! https://www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/indiana-burbot-record/

I understand why they do the clickbait deal. There are so many content creators out there that I tend to be really choosey. I used to watch a couple of guys and they moved to a more clickbait scenario and though I am still subscribed I just tune them out.

Did that for you Jeffπ

I stopped watching the 618 fishing guy. I called him out when he fished Little Piney creek and titled his video that it was illegal to keep fish from the creek when the MDC allows keeping 18 inch or bigger fish. Because of the hyped up title I was done.

As a New Year's day tradition, we have pork and sauerkraut. Typically I try to use a pork butt roast. This year I found some pork country ribs. My rub consisted of garlic powder, Asian 5 spice, smoked paprika, and brown sugar. Browned the meat and used chicken stock and pilot grigio wine as braising liquid. Added whole garlic cloves and chunked onions. Cooked at 325 for almost 2 hours then added sauerkraut to the Dutch oven. Cooked another 30 mins. Served with mashed potatoes.

I would put this under the "It just can't help itself" category. I thought this is a funny video.

On Monday I thought about going and pounding the bream again at the honey hole but went chasing a lifer bird in Delaware which I missed by about an hourπ. If all goes well with our car repairs, I will catch my first 2023 fish this weekend.

Isn't that the fallacy of the make big corporations pay more taxes and expect that they won't change their prices to cover that increase?

Congrats Jim on catching some slabs in highly pressured waters!

However, we spent one spring and summer adventure fishing strip pits in Rocky Forks CA near Columbia. Some of these pits had terrible access which made them more attractive thinking that they would have less fishing pressure. Lots of hikes through thick brush to get to open water. However, the worst one required a climb down a 15 to 20 foot cliff to reach the water (nothing like your video). I was fishing a Gulp jerkbait and hooked into what I thought was a 7 Lb bass. Turned out to be a 5 to 6 lb channel catfish. I thought about keeping the fish but looked up at the cliff that I had to climb to get out and just let it go π! When I first started fishing the Current river with my hand painted jerkbaits, I did climb one of the bluffs well below Baptist access to get my lure backπ .

Congrats Jeff! I haven't wetted a line this year.

I am in no way close to Marty's league in collecting cast iron. I don't have specific pans that I am looking for at least not yet. However, I enjoy digging through piles of old rusted pans looking for something special. To me the most visceral aspect of this hobby is that first glimpse beneath the rust and crud at the treasure within π. Followed by the feeling of accomplishment in bringing back new life to a forgotten pan.

I did get a couple of hand tied jigs from the guide. Not sure if that counted as a refund π .

Congrats Marty on completing that full set of old Iron. They look ready for another century of service.

@Lance34 glad to see you posting again with a bunch of crappie!

At year's end, I ended up with the following: I caught 79 different species and 910 total fish. I caught at least one fish in nine states with lifers in six of them. Maryland - L New Jersey - L Kansas Missouri - L Virginia - L Delaware West Virginia - L Indiana North Carolina - L I caught 3 Darters in MD and one was a Lifer Tessellated (L) - MD Fantail - MD Greenside darter - MD I caught three Lifer sculpin species in Maryland (have one more species in MD to catch) and a lifer blenny. Blue Ridge Sculpin - MD Checkered Sculpin - MD Potomac Sculpin - MD Freckled Blenny - VA I fished for Roanoke Bass but no luck in the Eno River. I will have to go back down to NC and spend more than a few hours trying for a Roanoke bass. I only caught one Lifer bullhead. Fished the Eno River for a snail bullhead but need to go back. Flat Bullhead - NC Unfortunately, due to car issues we did not get down to SC or GA and I did not try for spotted sunfish. I did try a few spots for Banded sunfish. One spot was nearly dried up and the others didn't seem to have the fish. I had targeted 18 Lifers, but only caught 17 in 2022. I had my chances. Throughout the year I missed shortnose gar, grass carp, Ozark logperch, Johnny darters, redfin shiners, ribbonfish... I did get one of my previous fish changed to a new species giving me the total lifer target number for 2022 that I was hoping to achieve. I did get to meet and fish with @FishnDave. If I could fish better, I might have caught one of those shortnose gar or grass carp. I'll either blame the heat or the irresistible floats that they tried to eat instead of the jigs. I did make good on catching goldfish and koi at Dave's koi spot. Ocean Pout - NJ Blue Ridge Sculpin - MD Tessellated Darter - MD Checkered Sculpin - MD Guppy - WV - #5 Freckled Blenny - VA Rainwater Killifish - MD Mountain Redbelly Dace - VA Koi (Amur Carp) - MO Striped Anchovy - VA #10 Flat Bullhead - NC Crescent Shiner - NC White Shiner - NC Bull Chub - NC Potomac Sculpin - MD #15 Spottail Shiner - MD Windowpane Flounder - NJ I look forward to what everyone will accomplish in 2023π

Very cool that you are able to fit the whole rod in that eyeglass case. -

Congrats buddy on your recovery, building a Tanago rod and landing your first fish with it! As per the goals of Tanago fishing, now you just need to catch smaller fish with that rodπ. -
Thanks Jeff. It's new year's and I'll give a passπ At least there are plenty of photos π

We have been having great winter weather. I took off a couple of hours on Friday and fished with Livie from 3:30 to sunset. With only a little window, we fished the sunfish honey hole that Sue and I fished earlier in the year. Though it was colder water and the bites were slower, we still had a great day of just fishing. Mostly caught bluegill and a couple of pumpkinseed, hybrid pumpkinseeds, and green sunfish. We both ended the day at 26 fish each. Livie won the day by catching the only black crappie of the trip!π After we got home, it was apparent that we could achieve some year totals if we tried again on the last day of the year. We tried to fish the upper reaches of Tuckahoe Creek near the spillway in hopes of catching some yellow perch or fallfish. We both just caught one bluegill each. With rain in the forecast, we ran back to the honey hole. The sunfish were just as active. We agreed that when we both caught our target number of fish that we would leave. I needed 21 fish total to reach 900 fish for 2022 and Livie needed 23 to reach 375 fish. Though she was getting grumpy for missing strikes, she did land her 375th fish of 2022 π We spent less than two hours fishing and both met or exceeded our number goals. I ended the year at 910 fish and felt like I had a tough but ultimately a successful year!

Congrats - Looks like a New Year's Eve fish fry is getting ready to happenπ

Maybe you are doing some things wrong or at least not as right as they can be. I definitely feel that there is some bad luck against you. Don't give up or even look at the success of others on this forum as a means to down grade your efforts. Most folks on here have been fishing these lakes and rivers for years. To combat the first part, reach out to some of the guys to fish either in your boat or on theirs. Many would be willing to show you a few tricks that will help you. Definitely take Marty up on his offer! Then try and use those techniques on your home lakes. If no luck there, I can give you pointers and a lake that you can get onto a bunch of crappie from the bank. You may not want the drive. Good luck!

Thanks Dave. I have read that article before. At night it's a lot about lights and glowsticks. Then bait. They can be picky at least for me.

These are big numbers and as you know will require a lot of travel. Worth it if you can make it happen. Not many people can say that they caught over 100 species in a year and that number drops dramatically when you get closer to 150.
