I fished out of State park today from 10:30-3:30.  I fished between there and Orleans Trail.  I caught 14 bass all on Zeros.  They were in coves in about 6 fow.  I couldn't get a bite deeper than that.   I weighed my best 5.  They ranged from 4.75 pounds to 2 pounds for a total of 14.5 pounds.

    What are "zeroes"

  2. I'm looking into the Berkley Lighning Rod Trout in a 7' light action. Anyone try one of these yet? Some reviews say they break easy, some folks swear by them...if not this rod, what is another good setup for throwing small jigs a long way?

Looking for something 6'-6" or 7' for a decent price....i really like the pflueger trion rods but i can only find them in a combo.

Nice, good bunch of fish there.  Did you actually catch them on Taneycomo?  Is your color a secret?  Purple over orange with a tad of orange crystal flash in a 30 grain jig has always been my go to color after the sun goes down.

Hey Dutch, absolutely got them at Taneycomo, there's been a ton of warmwater fish this Spring with all the floodgates running...I'll PM you the color, its not really a secret but I like to pretend my style is just enough different to be "custom" 😜😊

  4. Fished from 5:45 to 8:30 and flat out slayed..

12-14 white bass, 7-8 smallies, 3 rainbows, 1 walleye....easily my best outing since moving to Missouri, maybe ever....quality was amazing too including my personal best white bass at 19" and personal best rainbow at 20"

I might need to start selling my custom bucktail jigs cuz that's all they wanted to hit tonight and it had to be the right color combo or I got nada.

What a blast, I might never beat a day like today!

  5. Hi Guys,

I have been a shorefisher my whole life i have a boat that im really interested in that weighs 1550 lbs per the online spec sheet. My toyota highlander shows a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs but i know its not that simple right? Im thinking worst case is pulling the boat out of the water ....what information do i need to double check before making a purchase?

    Thanks!

Congrats on the walleye and sorry you lost the couple other nice fish, next time dont use older hooks with dull barbs, haha. That was me and my kids down there fishing next to you.  Congrats on the nice fish

Thanks Vonreed, for the pictures too! I bought some fresh 1/8oz jigheads today with great hooks!

  7. I have already shared this report with a few of you guys and checked with Phil and it is not as much of a secret as I thought so here's the post for the group. I finally got into the Taneycomo walleyes Ive been trying to find for a couple years now...big girl was a 23" smaller male was 19" also caught a really nice white, a chunk smally, and lost another big fish from a headshake after peeling quite a bit of drag...one of the most memorable nights I've had in my fishing career and I only fished for 2 hours. Saw 2 other nice walleyes caught on a white jerkbait from another gentleman who was gracious enough to be my camera man. What makes it special to me is these fish came on a bucktail jig I tied just a few weeks ago. This was the "motivation" i sent DJ last night so I'm sure his crew will tear em up this weekend.

Thanks to everyone who gave me the tips on when and how to target them.

Placeholder for tomorrow through Sunday.   My awesome wife booked me a condo at Point Royale for my 40th Bday, (sorry Phil when she booked everything was closing up or we'd be there) for Wednesday to Sunday.

My original plans to go to Alaska for my 40th fell through as I switched employers in January...  It's also been a rough ride which I'm adjusting to life as an IT mercenary. That means if I don't work I don't get paid so my freedom to just take off and go fish has been drastically reduced.

I haven't trout fished in months due to work and covid hotting my current healthcare employer hard, and I'm ready and overdue for an awesome trip with my usual cast of characters.  There will be 7 of us when Seth gets down on Friday.  Have a great mix of seasoned anglers and a few recreational fishermen who tolerate our marathon fishing methods.

Plan is to hit it hard each day and night as the water and weather permits... figure with this many guys that are great jig and jerk bait slingers we're hoping to stick a big brown at some point.

If anyone's down or would like to join our  motley crew for night time adventures chasin sea monsters just shoot me a PM and I'll send ya my cell.  Going to be interesting for sure with the crazy rain forecast.

If it's not pouring we'll try to keep this thread updated with reports and pics.

    Tight lines everyone,

Sounds awesome HK, im headed up to the dam tonight to see if i can catch that break in the rain just right. I'll be bank fishing so ill probably be throwing jigs and jerkbaits and ill have the fly gear with too. Ill try to remember to post a report this evening.

The fishing in the outlets is unreal right now, too, FYI. I have landed two 20-inch rainbows today. This is unbelievable. Steve Dickey and his client landed a 7-lb walleye and a 3.5-lb walleye last night as well as several 15-18" trout. The big fish are eating and it's the time to be here. I wonder if lack of pressure has anything to do with it?

Any idea what the walleyes came on?

I can appreciate your feelings in this situation. I too have family and some very young ones to concern myself with. We all handle this in our own way.  I worry and have fears just like everyone else. But for me I choose to  look past those emotions the best I can. All they do is waist energy and drag a person down. When it comes I will deal with it the best I can. As far as I can tell. That's my only option.  Wish nothing but health and happiness for you and your family...God Bless.

Well said, same to you and yours

The MDC has shut down all fish schools and are only five whites at a time up the river. Can't be too careful...

This actually a pretty witty joke 😊 but I cant get on board with laughing about this thing just yet...got two little ones and we're very worried for them. I dont even consider myself an alarmist

  12. Finally got the chance to give it a try this year even if the conditions weren't perfect....first stop was 215 bridge since it was the closest and i was antsy...on my second or 3rd cast I picked up a nice male white and i thought here we go! Unfortunately that was the only bite of the day...threw the whole tackle box at em....bucktail jigs in purple, gray, pink, chartreuse...lipless cranks, some bigger walleye style plastics in white and purple/chartreuse. Tried 1/8th, 1/4th, and 1/16th ounce sizes, didnt seem to matter. Couldnt even get bit on my homemade maribou jigs...the fish came on a 1/16th ounce white head with a purple swimming minnow plastic.

Headed up to Taylor after that and saw one guy catch a single dink there, decided to head back to 215 to finish up the afternoon and saw a guy land a decent walleye, 18" or so, on a white grub.

Overall very slow but nice to not read about coronavirus. These truly are strange times and fishing felt normal if only for a few hours, best wishes for everyone and their families these next few weeks/months.

Level holding around 870.  I plan to go Friday if they don’t get too much rain down there.

Thanks Dutch, ill shoot you a message Friday night to see if you made it out...is 870 a "good" level? Or what is a good level to shoot for if planning a trip....of course O just go when I can

  14. Anyone headed out tomorrow or Friday? I plan on fishing Saturday morning and Im trying to decide between chasing the whites or heading to Taneycomo...if the Little Sac is chocolate milk i may head south amd try the whites another time. Any type of water level/clarity report would be super helpful. Cheers!

Did you just say "run"!!!  Fake news!!!:D

    Hey SIO3,

I can see where you're coming from...i usually try to fish the white bass run about 5 to 6 times per year if i can...my experience is that i typically hit 1-2 unbelievably good days where i cant keep em off the hook...another few days where i might catch 3 or 4, and at least one or two days where you'd swear the river is empty...i think the run definitely exists but its more hit or miss than its portrayed sometimes.

They move around a lot and shore fishers like me have a hard time staying on them. I think the boat guys definitely have a small advantage.

I cant wait for the day I can get after em in my own john boat..
