Dutch. Do you know if there is a problem fishing inside the wake buoys at mutton creek marina? I can see where they would not want a bunch of people fishing around the slips. But what about out in the open water and shore line?
Thanks Wrench. I would say I'm a pretty fair mechanic. Both mechanically and electrical. That being said. I am not a boat mechanic. I have never been one to cut corners on safety. I spent 35 years on the railroad personally keeping people from getting squished. I have an understanding of how things go south when you cut corners. So if I am hearing you write. Being a carbed motor is not a bad thing?
I know the majority of us are more familiar with outboards over inboards. But my wife has decided she wants a nice deck boat for us and family gatherings. But I could not tell you the first thing about an inboard motor or it's maintenance requirements. At least with an outboard I can tell you what color it is.
So my question is. All things being equal in proper care and treatment. At what point do you start thinking " I don't know, that's a lot of hours"? What would you folks with knowledge of them feel comfortable with? And yes, I will be keeping my little tin boat. My wife will captain this barge. Thanks, Mike
Hey Wrench, or anybody for that matter. That has experience or knowledge with a early 2000's Volvo Penta 5.7 engines. Would you care to share your thoughts on them, please. Quality, reliability, any special challenge in servicing? And since then. Have they improved or declined in quality. Thanks, Mike.
All things being equal I would think flat would create less water displacement, which would crate less draft. So you get another inch out of it. But on tight curves you'll probably drift more than the round ones. Which means you will be a little out of control and run right into wrench because he can't control his boat. lol Keep in mind that I'm not a scientist , but my wife does make wear a lab coat sometimes and one of those shiny headlamp things from the fifties. But that's a whole different forum. 😉
Really nice Yak. That had to be a trip for the memory banks! Just as well you didn't get that moose. I would think you would want at a heavy action rod for that.
Went out yesterday morning. Working on my offshore game. It seems to be getting a little better in understanding each time I go out. But it also seems redundant for me. I am not doing anything great. Probably why I haven't mentioned it. That being said, it has been fun. I usually will catch several spots. Several in the 14 to 16 inch range. Which are great for dinner. But I have yet to get in on any sizable LM. I am posting this pic of a 16 incher that would have struggled to go a pound. I know they can get skinny this time of year, but this dude looked like he was on a super models diet. Cigarettes and caffeine. 🤪 Brought home what I thought we would need to finish up our family fry next weekend. dropshot around main lake points north of Hartley. Alway fun to fish!!!
I was there in Springfield Saturday looking for some weight stoppers. None to be had as well as many other things. Wife is wanting a family ski boat for the kids and grand kids to. Not a one to be found. except they had four used ones brought from the Rock. They were rentals. Lot of hours on them for one year.
Great dad move. I could only imagine what it would have been like to do that with your dad.
I did the bridge pillar, livescope thing at Stockton last Thursday. It was spot city. Boated a number of them. Caught 4 that were in the 15 and 16 inch area, A couple of them were invited home for dinner. It was so much fun watching those spots attack the bait. Mike
straw hat, Have you, or have you talk to anyone night fishing for crappie anywhere on the lake. Thought I would give it a try soon. May try Truman soon as well.
I haven't used them all. But I use the Hound dog as well. And as far as as "bang for the buck" . I would say the Hound dog is good. It's cheap and works well.
I have been trying to get my wife to fish for a while. She has seen me watching One Cast on TV a lot. So she said she would be willing to try that. And I don't know a thing about. The last time I fished for trout. The only thing I knew, " Only the finest anglers Used Libby's corn. " brand of marshmallows was optional. lol Of course you have to remember. Back in those days we didn't have the information stream we do now. I thought I was killing it. lol
