    Favorite fish fry

My Dad always mixed equal parts flour and corn meal. A little salt and pepper and that was it.

Once dredged let the rings sit for a bit before dropping in the grease.

The key to great onion rings is to use vidalia onions. Slice the onions, separate the rings, and soak in buttermilk. Out of the buttermilk and dredge in flour then off to the grease. Once they come out hit them with some Lawry's season salt, Tony's, or whatever else you like. Get a nice light, flaky ring. Simple and tasty. Much better than heavily coated, crusty, tasteless rings which are typical. Crappie and Walleye are excellent sautéed in butter and hit with a little Old Bay.
  4. Sounds like a great trip
  5. Quit in 2004 and have never looked back.. Quit many times before that but didn't stick to it. Can't say it gave me more energy, but definitely gives you more time and saves a lot of money. If you want energy get rid of most carbs in your diet.
  6. Been known to get an elongated "nose" on some of my jigs after baking. Haven't quite figured out if it is too much powder paint or too long a bake. Or both?
  7. So what was the trick to getting the results you wanted?
  8. If my trolling motor doesn't get here soon so I can get back to fishing I might have to start drinking.
  9. Sounds like fun Phil. Wish my old knees were up to it. Good luck.
  10. More trout for Tablerock anglers now.

    38 Years

Congrats Oneshot! My wife and I will hit 39 years in May.
  12. Always wondered what they do with all the fish they shoot.
  13. Or pick up a cast net and catch your own.
  14. Trying to find an Ultrex - 80#-45"-24v. Pretty sure the term "backordered" really means "you aren't fishing for awhile". All but one retailer said they have no idea when they will get some as MinnKota won't or can't tell them. Found one retailer that says he is getting a shipment at the end of the week. Told him to put my name on one. We'll see.
  15. Can buy a lot of live shad for that kind of money.
  16. Cleaning fish is a breeze. With that said I'm mostly C&R.
  17. And you have proof of this?
  18. Went through all my tackle and plastics. Amazing how much unused gear I had acquired. I put together 8 large plano boxes full of hard baits. To go with each I added several jigs, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, soft plastics, hooks, sinkers, swivels, etc. Then added some crappie/panfish jigs, beetle spins, sassy shads, hooks, bobbers, and split shot. Also tossed in some trout size trebles, rooster tails, small spoons. Each package went to a youth fisherman that have the fishing addiction. Furthest packages were shipped to Michigan.
  19. Lots of females on the banks last weekend. Morning-Noon-Night didn't matter. Consistent bite all day long. Water temp 58-60. Chartreuse/purple was the hot color.
  20. Folks need to be courteous whether tourney Tom or dock owner Don. A little common courtesy from both would go a long way to having an enjoyable day on the water. Contrary to what some dock owners believe, anyone has the right to fish the water the dock is floating on. But have some common sense. Don't be banging off the dock, getting out to retrieve your lure from a poor cast, respect the dock owners property. By the same token, intentionally getting into it with fisherman who aren't damaging your property is bad as well. As for folks that don't know the rules of boating and plow past the dock at 20 yards should be held accountable for their stupidity. More than half the folks that have a boat shouldn't as they do not understand them, don't know the rules, and typically only care about themselves.
  21. Those barred feathers from a wood duck?
  22. Word of mouth from satisfied customers not pro-staffing KVD wannabes. Fish against some folks in the local weekly derbies that consider themselves on a pro staff. Guess cashing checks and/or being one of the top sticks isn't a requirement. Usually they are the ones who have no common courtesy toward their fellow anglers. Their entry fee spends just as good as the non-prostaffers.
  23. Best to build a loyal customer base through quality products, great customer service, fair pricing, and standing behind the products you sell. Word of mouth advertising is far better long term than any radio/TV spot hyping the business.
  24. Who knew couples advice could be had from Wrench. Maybe he needs his own forum....... Dear Wrench. Probably a man version of Dear Abby but no where near as good a read as Dear Penthouse.
