  1. Lets dig this one up again many years later. I am going to mount a Lowrance Hook 2 9" unit on my jet boat for use mainly in lakes when I drag the boat along for dual purpose. River use of the electronics is limited. Nice to see the structure under while fishing rivers. Even better using the gps and track to navigate up and down the river. I normally run up and fish back down. If I made it up on a run without banging something, going down the same path should be fine. I kept with the simple small transducer unit on purpose, they take alot of abuse on river boats. We normally "rub" them off while drift fishing and not watching the back while hitting stuff. Normally don't even notice the damage till we start running and see the thing flopping around at the end of its cord off the back of the boat. Looking for a mount that is more flexible, protected, or somewhat improved. Any new ideas??
  2. I keep waiting on this one to happen, got it at the Chinese Buffet a few weeks ago. So far, same ole goofy crap, nothing more unusual than what I have already seen this year. I was really expecting something normal to happen based on that fortune.
  3. My Grandpa was same way, I have a mule deer mount he killed at the farm. Only mount he ever made. I have one mounted from 1989 I killed, made Mo Big Buck. The only mount I have had done. Dad did none in his lifetime other than a nice big Bobcat.
  4. Mule deer from where?
  5. I would like to do the Strawberry again. Been 35 years.
  6. Radiation got my ears to sputtering on one side. Its a variable ringing, tweeting, noise. Pretty aggravating. And for whatever reason, shooting high power rifles with standard hearing protection seems to ramp up the volume of the ringing noise. Still plenty of stuff to see Oneshot, people are doing dumber stuff every day. Give the next few weeks a try and see what happens.
  7. Hang a big rubber snake out there on the window.
  8. I bought a portable Eagle unit many years ago and it came with a suction cup mount for the transducer. I still use it on jon boats and kayaks. I have upgraded the unit, but the mount works on the Lowrance units transducers. May be able to find the same for the Garmin. Otherwise, Scotty makes one for their rod type mounts. Swings over the side and adjusts.
  9. Merry Christmas to the band of Merry Misfits.
  10. Around here, they seem to disappear around October and are back in flocks in March. Then I have a few pairs raise in the trees of the yard all summer. Usually see them foraging for bugs in the yard grass and leaves.
  11. I had 2 Robins at the bird feeder this morning. Guess they forgot to migrate. Or their flight got cancelled. Or someone closed the border.
  12. Local farm supplies get most of my hunting dollars lately. Guns, ammo, stands, clothing, boots, and other supplies. Rural King, Orscheln, Buchheits, Tractor Supply, and many others. Every locale has one and you can find good deals and equipment there along with other stuff.
  13. I like Academy Sports. Jackson Tn still has a Gander Outdoor, still kicking after many of the other locations dropped. But, I rarely find anything to buy there. Midway USA is great, I online shop there alot. Dunn's, Denny Dennis get more money than BPS monopoly gets for the most part. But I run Tracker boats and so does my fishing buddy. They are useful, but Tracker is worthless after the sale down the road for parts or support.

    What's Cooking?

Try them in an air fryer, done in 20 minutes with a nice bark on them.
  15. Interesting rig, looks like a bugger to cast. Lots of room for tangles and snags.
  16. Yep. Garage door openers were junk too.
  17. Lithium had that problem in laptops, I guess the same on a bigger, 12 v scale. Guess the tree huggers will just have to learn to accept the lead for what it is, useful in many applications.
  18. Good job. Better than TN this weekend. Smallies were off due to the rain, ended up Sauger fishing below Pickwick. That bite is turning on and we caught dinks today, along with some nice catfish.
  19. Stanley has been one of those American trusted names for generations.
  20. I use the small ones indoors of grain houses and sheds for rats. I use the set tool and the safety. I had one unload when trying to do it the ole fashion way, pops pretty quick. Don't have any of the large ones that you need for the beavers. Lots of coil behind them.
  21. Trump tried to push the envelope. But Hunter got a new country to command since Russia fired him.
  22. I was thinking there were shotgun pellets in the pink crocs and a misfire or accidental discharge on the first pic. Maybe a little toe blood
  23. I bet he flopped around for a while. I certified for cable restraints and run them one season on the farm before Dad got yeller dog. Caught 2 coyotes. Can't set them any more with him running loose
  24. Odd catch on the otter, almost made it thru. I wish I had time to trap. It's a fun sport.
  25. I spent several days this summer in the area. Peaked my interest while staying in Ellington one afternoon with the wife on a rainout, big sign say "Elk Viewing Area". Grabbed a map and did the 2 track tour in the Sequoia thru the Current River Conservation Area off 106 looking for elk. Found the shooting range, an ole cabin in middle of no where, sinkhole pond?, and a few fences of private areas inside the refuge. The only wildlife that afternoon was a squirrel and a lone bull dyke hiker. We hit some trails normally reserved for atv traffic, had to pop out the handheld gps unit for assistance. Lots of cleared areas and water holes. Fun to drive around in. Many trips to the area in what were supposedly good "elk viewing" areas provided a no show. But I was scouting river accesses and not really wanting to see the elk, but it would have been nice to see my tax dollars at work. I would not really advise the area just for its elk viewing pleasures.
