I am with you on that one. The anemic 5hp 2 stroke we had in my 20's would not get me back up the runs on 11pt in the 17' square stern alumnacraft canoe. I doubt if they do better now. I struggled on the Gasconade with my Panfish and 25hp Merc on Sunday below the Jerome access at the run coming out of the hole. We ran down and was doing about 16 mph, turned and run upstream and was going 12-13 mph. Hit the current in the run and dropped down to 6 mph. Jets are funny, the shallower the water the better they run. Normally if you hit a riffle coming out of a deep hole with my boat, you can actually feel the back lift up and run better thru it. If the riffle is deep, the opposite seems to happen and it bogs down. Sitting up front with that stick steer seems to give me that feeling. Did not notice that with the tiller jet I had first.

Why did you have to bring politics into it right off the bat? Between now and November and Governor......

We started catching the bluegill and small bass that was pecking the soft plastics we were tossing to edges. And we picked up a few keepers at Council Bluff. Started out using it on Gasconade, then switched to chartreuse tube jig. As day progressed, went with same color in swim baits. Had plenty of action on river that seemed to be only 7' deep in the deep spots.

They still make them, bluegill color was what I was using.

I don't think there is a fishing permit for taking smallmouth bass with spears. I never knew that little stream had any bass in it. Just loads of drunken floaters that raise the water temp each weekend in the summer with urine. I had always avoided it because of the massive float camp on it. I choose the Courtois and found the same problem when I took a shot at it, groups of floaters on a marginal floatable stream that kept coming by and running into me. You can only push off a certain number of boats standing waist deep in water before it gets to be work.

Started the weekend off with a Missouri trip instead of TN. We had been stuck in a rut down there and wanted something new. Started out at Council Bluff on Sat. and did catch a few. Lake fishing in the middle of summer and getting a late start in the day did not help much. Caught a few after I found the magic, a Heddon Tiny Torpedo. Off to Montauk for some trout fishing was the plan. Made it to Salem and the motel was booked. Made some calls and landed at Rolla around 5. Put the boat to rest and my buddy suggested to look at the Jerome access. It was crowded with boats on a Sat. afternoon, but I knew they would all be licking their wounds from a day on the water and might have some good morning time. Put in Sunday morning and ran up past a few boats for several miles then started fishing. Chartreuse swimbait was the charm lure and we found a few. Best was an 18" smallie and this big 24" cat that was a by catch. Put up a good fight. No Largemouth or Kentuckys on that stretch came to a lure. Gonna have to add that river to my rotation. Good boating river and friendly. They would wait to come up stream if we were fishing a riffle run or go behind in the skinny part. Never seen that on the Current River or 11 PT, they just blow on thru if you are fishing and wake you.

The Huzzah never looked like any stream that I wanted to spend time on. Went by the big campground on Highway 8 this afternoon, too crowded. I have waded the Courtois and been ran over by floaters, never figgered that one out either.

We ran a little 5hp prop on my square stern when I was younger on 11pt. But we never used it to motor back up thru riffles. We would float down stream an go back up productive holes or to troll cranks. If I remember right, it did not have much power going up stream against strong current. Plan a trip there and go downstream. Try running back up and see what it does.

I think you needed to plant a few more trees in the front yard a few years ago so everyone can enjoy you enjoying the deck....

I am retiring on 235 acres with lots of inclines. I hope I fall and kill myself fast. Or just slip out of the boat and drown peacefully. Don't want the nursing home that is been claiming Dad for over 2 years now.

Try telling your boss to up your income so you can retire comfortable, see how that works. Best to have another income source than Social Security. Never trust the government, ever.....

If he had some weight in front to offset the weight of the heavy Merc, he could have went more skinny. Would have trimmed better. Back off the speed and reserve some for current and steering, don't go full blast all of the time. My little 1654 Express with the 20hp Johnson 2 stroke could have made all of that with a man in front and a trolling motor.

There are days that I am glad I live in nowhere. Naked folks on bikes are a sight that needs to be unseen. Lots of rotten bike seats tonite I am thinking......

I use that stuff too, but the wasps I hit with it still seem to fly enough that I have to get away. I would have used a flame thrower, at least the wings burn off and you can stomp them on the ground.

Those sweepers are tough on even jet boats if you are not paying attention. This warm weather and the decision to make the upper part above Turner a trophy area has ruined it for fishing. I does fish better in the fall and winter. It gets a supplemental stocking in December if they are still doing it. It is the most beautiful and wild stream in MO. We need to keep it that way.

Looks more like the old black rat snake, Aka Chicken Snake.. If there is a mouse hole, there is a way in for them. Make sure he finds a new home far away.

Are we floating or jet boating?

Never done the James either. As long as we don't run into the Graybear we should be fine.
