You cannot just fry an old squirrel and think it's not going to be tough. I'm just going to say this it like it or not. You don't know what you are doing with your meat. 🤣 In the last couple of days I have shot four out of six that are not going to be for frying but I can make them tasty. You could pressure cook them and then fry but why? There are more interesting things to do with them. Just go to the dollar store and get you some of the ground up chicken shaped like dinosaurs call them a chicken nugget and be happy.

Before and After - November 2024 Rain Event
BilletHead replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Chat
We need this like TJM very badly. Before this we were in the bullseye here in Vernon County. Looks like it is shifting to the East some. We had 2 inches even last night. I will take every drop we are given. If all of you to the East don't want so much rain, will you all please go outside and fill your lungs and all at once blow towards the west as hard as you can maybe the line will shift. Our soil will thank you. -
Great Hunt! They are tracking how long they mortality rate of a covey. Yes, they want that information. Reason you have so many bands is the whole covey that are set up for winter were together. I am betting that whole covey was banded. Thanks for posting This is really neat!

Anyone have any success today? The BilletHeads have a report. Once again dry conditions. Our saving grace was the pond in the timber we like to open up the middle zone had some water. Our country did have a couple rain events in the spring that filled the pond. It's low now but enough to hunt. Bone dry last year. We limited out. Not being picky really. Very few big ducks around due to unseasonably warm weather. Today was a wood duck and green wing teal shoot both are good eats. This hunt lasted less than an hour of actual hunting time. I shot the first wood duck. Went out to retrieve knowing fully well there was a rusted broken off fence post in the middle. Shin deep for me and to Pat's knees. For mud bottom it's easy walking. I do use a shovel handle walking in it. I should of shuffled but instead normal walk. I found the post and tore a hole top of my boot through the wader material. I'm thinking not even patchable. Lucky it didn't get my leg. Got back and emptied what I could right out of the hole I had made. Told Pat you are up to the plate now for water duty. So as a good sport she did. Birds trickling in on and off. Nice teal wads and smaller Woodies. I hope these videos are seeable. Lots of laughs were had. VID_20241102_075842384.mp4 VID_20241102_080114218.mp4 Another amazing deal all drake day for both species. Two wood ducks each and four green wings each. Cleaned up really well clean bunch. The transportation ready to head back to the truck. VID_20241102_084919163.mp4

Not looking like it. American red fox - Wikipedia

They are cool. Red fox and grays for that matter are loosing territory because of coyotes. They will kill them if able. Could be why people see so many in urban areas.

Gray Fox! I'm with John, I like them. Trapped a few back in the day and yes seen one climb a tree. Grays like thick brush and timber where the Red's favor more open areas. Gray foxes are more catlike and would try to get you when trapped. Did not stop me I would wade right in and catch them. Somewhere I have a picture my dad took of me holding one when he went with me one day. Turned one loose while in Texas hunting Jalevina. It was in a foot hold. I was with a group of friends on that hunt. I felt pretty sorry for it. Texas is like another country and trapping is different. You don't have to run traps as often as here. That and for nuisance animals they use cyanide cannons. We were in way south Texas and seen signage saying they were in use in the area. Written in English and Spanish. For those of you who don't know here it is, M44 (cyanide device) - Wikipedia Ok back to the release of the gray fox. We were driving along when I first seen the Christmas ornaments and flashy garland hanging from some brush. Then the fox nearby caught in the trap. Being catlike it likes flashy moving stuff. I asked the guys to stop, and I grabbed some leather gloves. They ask what I was going to do. I said let it go, and they all freaked like I was going to get eaten alive. I got right in there and caught the fox, holding it I said one of you come over here and get the trap springs compressed and off. This even took some convincing. Finally, one did and off went the fox. This was 15 to 20 years ago One of the guys videoed it. John Sturdavant where are you know? From Iowa. He sent us all a copy and whis I knew where it was now. Great memory thanks @Dutch for this post and trip down memory lane.

Yes we did and was good to see you again David. Wish we'd had a bit more time. Almost three hours home and that wind beat us up all day. We were pooped by the time we got home.

David, Do yourself a favor and get this book. Keeping Bees With a Smile | Natural Beekeeping | Horizontal Hives Some reading before you decide what hive to choose. This is what we are doing. Listen to @jdmidwest when he talks about the Langsdorf hives also if you are serious about getting into beekeeping. You told me also that your son was interested in beekeeping. At your age and your health status take him on as a partner for the heavy stuff, you be the Forman on the job. There is commitment in the hobby for the keeper. Less with the Layens hive but still some hands-on stuff. At the top of the link are plans for the long hives. Look at this also. Hives of any type like everything else is getting expensive to buy and make. I built all our hives but both hives I use and the ones Jdmidwest uses can be made much cheaper.

I have been asked by a couple people before Anthony. Good idea for you to think about @oneshot 1, I will also give you another suggestion or two when I see you.

Bummer, Did really good here I think. A little over ten gallons. We were amazed. We left plenty for them to winter on also and probably could of taken more but don't want to take chances by being greedy.

Not if he goes layens or Long Lang. I'm not a bendy lifter guy anymore. How was your harvest JD?
