Johnsfolly Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Been playing catch-up. A few notable meals. Chicken Asian lettuce wrap. diced chicken with shredded carrots, ginger, green onions with a soy, ginger, and hoisin sauce. Sunday Breakfast was not Grandma Vi's pancakes, but one of our favorite recipes. I added orange zest and vanilla to the mix. Then sprinkled in dried cranberries and chopped pecans into mine. Livie got chocolate chips and pecans, and My betterhalf got just the pecans. Served with breakfast sausage and local Amish Applewood smoked bacon. Bushbeater, rps, BilletHead and 1 other 4
Johnsfolly Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Last night was braised beef short ribs. I dusted the ribs with a mixture of flour, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Browned all sides in the dutch oven with olive oil. Made a braising liquid that included a mushroom liquer (beef stock and dried hen of the woods mushrooms), a Yeungling black and Tan stout beer, and beef stock. Added three bay leafs, a bowl full of peeled garlic and chopped onion. Covered the Dutch oven and into a 325 deg oven for 2 and a half hours. I added carrots and continued cooking. Livie cleaned and halved some Brussel sprouts that got mixed with minced shallots, olive oil and bacon pieces. Increased the oven temp to 350 and put in the Brussel sprouts. Cooked them covered for about 25 mins then uncovered for 15 to 20 mins. The meat fell off the bone and the garlic cloves were creamy with that roasted garlic nutiness. Served these with the beef and mashed potatoes. nomolites, Daryk Campbell Sr, BilletHead and 1 other 4

ness Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 Leftovers, and they were better than the original. Dang. I never seem to see leftovers from y’all and new stuff coming at a very fast clip. Do you OA gourmets just throw the rest out?? There are starving children in China!! John
fishinwrench Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 This non-gourmet OAFer had leftover Million Dollar Spaghetti and toast for dinner. Always better after being reheated the second time. Not the toast though. 😊 Flysmallie 1

We pack my leftovers as school lunches (our school cafeteria is the worst thing about our school district). From time to time, extras are given away to the students.
