dtrs5kprs Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Nice feature on Ned today from Brent Frazee, and an interesting companion piece on the price of bass fishing. Sort goes along with Bill's thread about the hunt. I don't necessarily agree with everything, but it is worth reading. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/outdoors/article17404292.html I tend to think there are ways to use the little rig that hedge your bets in favor of bigger fish, and I'm not 100% anti tournament. I do wish more guys would relax and just go catch some without worrying about trying to win a buck. huntest and Hunter53 2
fishinwrench Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Agree with your last statement. There is a definite place for competitive fishing but it's kinda stupid when everyone with a bass rod or 3 has to be a bigtime tourney dude. It is overdone and has gotten old. Champ188, huntest and J-Doc 3

Guest Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The more spinning rods I have in the boat the more fish I seem to catch. It took awhile to adopt the little bait method for numbers, but it's been fun learning. If I was fishing tomorrow, i would have a Ned, bobby garland & rock crawler on deck. That pretty much covers all the bases.
Macsimus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Good read. Thanks for posting. "There was a time that I didn't fish, but I cannot remember it."

They are missing a lot of the fun, not to mention a lot of the fun to be had with their families. And he fishes out of an Xpress; gotta love this guy. Actually Ned has a Semi V of some sort, might be an Alumacraft or a Lowe. Would have to look up a pic of it. Think the Xpress is Mr. Frazee's ride. Simple fun either way.
fishingaddiction Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Good article. Different refreshing way to look at bass fishing. Numbers of fish are what I like about finesse fishing, don't get me wrong, there is nothing more enjoyable than catching big fish, but I do get bored very quickly when I am not getting bites. jayates 1 Born to Fish. Quillback Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I get Jay Kumar's "Bass Blaster" email. I don't know how I got on the list, but a few months ago I started getting it. For the most part it is worthless, but every once in a while it has some useful reading. I mention it because today's email took a little shot at Ned for Ned's comments on how fishermen should not emulate the pros. Here's a meme the guy used. Kind of funny the guy would take a shot at Ned.
Jerry Rapp Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Great read, except I don't agree with this statement......... "a Shakespeare Synergy spinning rod and an old Garcia Cardinal Four spinning reel — bargain-basement stuff." The reel in the photo appeared to be a Zebco Cardinal 4. If you go try to find one now, the prices can be pretty steep. Definitely not bargain basement stuff. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/outdoors/article17404292.html#storylink=cpy

Maybe if I wore a buff, ran 70+ to throw a $90 swimbait at a point three times before moving, for a limit of slob donkey monkey goat pandas (or whatever the cool kids call them, I think it means "bass" in English), and did it all in a flat billed hat I would appreciate it more. Am sure it plays well with the "I buy my own jerseys" crowd. Great read, except I don't agree with this statement......... Just having the bail properly removed takes someone with a little skill. Ned has some good pics of his gear up at his blog. Might have to search a bit. It might be vintage, but it is not fancy. ness 1
