rps Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Used to be, I never gave a second thought to such behavior being anything but just that ... blissful ignorance of boat ramp etiquette. Sadly, these days I'm pretty quick to be swayed into thinking they just don't give a fat rat's rectal region about anyone but themselves. I know your pain. I am fed up with "entitled." huntest and Ketchup 2
MOPanfisher Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I still most of it is just pure cluelessness. The difference anymore is instead of apologizing for blocking the whole ramp and thanking you for the help, they tend to cop an attitude instead. Champ188 and Terrierman 2
Members flyrod17 Posted July 9, 2015 Members Posted July 9, 2015 Guess I'm just lucky to keep running into crap on the ramps. This time on the Rock and I'm not saying where. A young couple with 3 kids were trying to launch a Battleship of a wake boat today and just having an impossible time attempting it. With the high water, these ramps are flat and just about as unforgiving as the fish were for me today. Mom was in the boat and Dad was trying to back it down. Trying being the key word here. He was taking all 3 slots on a 3 lane ramp with 8 boats waiting to either put in or take out. This was so bad that for a while I did not know whether he was trying to launch the boat or the "truck." He had both headed nose down the ramp at some points. After about 10 minutes of this BS a guy in a Big White Champion, lit into them with about as many 4 letter words as I think Funk and Wagnals has in its senior edition. About the 3rd time I heard the word Bitch I got out of there. There was really no way to help this couple, they had no business with a $150,000.00 rig in that position. Absolute No Business. I could see steam rising from everyone, especially when they backed into the water and finally made it only to discover they had not unhooked the rear tie downs, and had to pull it sideways back out. I blame some of this on the boat dealers, It should be mandantory for them to show people how to load and unload the boat. The young folks should also know that they do not own the ramp and there is a time limit on bunking and debunking, especially with the amount of usage at this time of the year. Like Quill, today I had plenty of traffic. Did not fuss abit when a guy trolled between me and the bank and caught a short K and promptly threw it in the live well without measuring it. Did not say a word when 2 wake boats bracketed me, one between me and the bank and the other about 1/2 cast behind me. Both putting wakes over the bow and stern. Share the water, that my new motto. Gosh I miss Sac River Jim This is horrible and they had no business and I'm sure the guy was embarrassed. I would have hlped them out after I kicked the Champion guy's teeth out. I don't tolerate cussing in front of woman and kids and for sue cussing out women!! After we got the bleeding stop he would have apologized to the lady! Muddy Water 1 "I'm Haunted by Water"
huntest Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I know your pain. I am fed up with "entitled." IMO this entitled attitude starts with poor misguided parenting. Children have been allowed to run wild in public getting in everyone's way, rampaging in restaurants, and not encouraged to be considerate, take their turn or wait in line like everyone else. They are special. This may sound like a seasoned citizen's reflections on the past but who remembers when children were taught to be seen and not heard, wait in line, and to say please and thank you. Me, I do, I remember. One simple thing that has changed is instead of kids eating last and getting a back or a neck when there was fried chicken, now they get served first and what they want. It's a little thing but I think it teaches that "me first" something at a very early age that tends to carry on through life. Champ188, huntest, crazy4fishin and 1 other 4

Nailed it. Parents, youth sports organizations, even schools go out of the way to make them all feel special, without any actual accomplishments. Lot of folks need to quit worrying about boosting self esteem, and work more on raising good citizens. We have generations of it in place now. There are a lot of us still trying to do it the right way. It's amazing how much grief and negative reaction you get from the "free rangers" when you hold your kids to high expectations, and apply some even handed discipline. I continue to be amazed how poor parenting is not attributed to parents. Meanwhile the public school system is relegated to babysitting and parenting by proxy. If you don't believe this, talk to teachers and get the scoop.
Mitch f Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I agree with everything being said, but it's too late The kids nowadays have no patience and they're being impelled to be that way. My daughters preschool has virtually every minute planned out, and when there's nothing to do she kind of looks around with this helpless look. Instant gratification everywhere including the news we get every day. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
MOPanfisher Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I guess I grew up as a "free ranger" at times. When not working in the field (Haying Season) or during chore time I was on my own. Quite often out of the house from just after breakfast to suppertime, .22 optional, knife required. Hear the horn honk ad your butt better be headed back on the double.. Want to ride your bike over to the neighbors pond to go fishing, have at it, want to wander the woods, see ya, just don't be stupid and be back in time to do chores. Some free ranging is not the same as "non parenting". Maybe I am just naive but I think that most of the kids I know are pretty good kids, you just only hear about the ones that cause problems. You don't hear about the kids who stopped someone from picking on a smaller kid, or the one who stopped and moved the turtles out of the road etc. You hear about the ones that brought a gun to school, or stabbed someone, or sadly was abducted.
