Hog Wally Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I work in stlouis and surrounding areas everyday and sometimes I deal with confrontational people and I purposely leave my gun at home when I think I'm gonna have issues. Some people have the fairy tale dream life where " it's all good man " Not me. I would rather run or punch , kick and bite my way out of a situation but I would defend any innocent victim anyway I could. Even some of you idiots. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
fishinwrench Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I've done quite a bit of handgun shooting in the past and that was with nice 6-8" barreled pistols and revolvers. I never really got to where I felt I was very good at offhand shooting with them. Oh sure I could hit a person at rock throwing range....but I can do THAT with a slingshot. Honestly, with some 3-4" barreled POS like you C&C guys carry I'd be better off throwing rocks.
Old plug Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Smalloebigs----- I rolled thru St louis and E St louis and hung out in some of the worst places in both towns before you were born. I would take a country boy at my side over a yuppie any day of the week. A whole lot of the country boys I know been in combat. In places like Chosen Reservoir, the Islands of the South Pacific, I know two that are former SEALs so you just keep you really need to keep your mouth shut about country boys. They served and fought. They did not hide are look down on those who did Amazing you do bot know such things as rape and beating people with hammers is allready banned.
jtram Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Plug, I may be mistaken, but I think that you misinterpreted smalliebigs post.....
Old plug Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Your mistaken. He made the statement about country boys as a slight. They are my people not prefect but still my people. Do not be making them up like cowards.
David Unnerstall Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Sorry if this is off topic, but I just had to share this somewhere and this seemed as good as anyplace. I always considered myself a Mary Ann guy -- Ginger just never did it for me. So, last night I'm watching Gilligan's Island on TV Land and somehow Mary Ann gets hypnotized and thinks she's Ginger -- she even starts wearing Ginger's clothes. Now I'm gonna have to rethink things! There's a third, even better choice! Oh, and then the Professor tries to hypnotize her back to Mary Ann, and Gilligan's watching and guess what?? He ends up thinking he's Mary Ann! Oh man, my gut still hurts from all the laughing. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore! I saw her in an ad on MeTV last night. She is still hot. ness 1
David Unnerstall Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 good point. I guess that all the posts from the antis in this thread are. Just opinions, no facts. On a serious note, i couldnt amagine living without the ability to protect myself or family when all other avenues have been exhausted. I raised my kids, 3 girls and 1 son, around firearms. They all, now in their 20's, love to shoot, and hunt. They are very capable of protecting themselves from any threat, where the threat has the potential to become deadly if need be. I have no issue taking someones life, and wouldnt loose a seconds sleep over it, if the person was in the wrong. I pretty set in my ways, like most gn owners, and think ive done a pretty good job at teaching those in my life self defense and firearm training as to help prevent them from being more of a victim that those without training would be. Ahhh I am trying to get to Heaven. And I am pretty sure if I shoot someone and the circumstances weren't what they seemed to be I would have to be buried in an asbestos casket. If I shot someone for just stealing my stuff, the asbestos probably won't be enough.
ColdWaterFshr Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I saw her in an ad on MeTV last night. She is still hot. Now see, I always thought Ginger was the hotter of the two.
Tanderson15 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 You dont shoot people stealing stuff or your car that's what insurance is for. Only to protect your life and life of others. You need to take a class and pay attention. Even law enforcement has limitations. I am serious about my responsibility, if I have to I can but hopefully I never have to. Have to keep this thread going. Too hot to fish. Greenheadrocker 1
Al Agnew Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I don't like the term liberal when referring to those that want a large central government and prefer the correct language of communist, socialist, and secular progressive, all of which are more accurate descriptors. Communist and socialist long ago co opted the word liberal because it was palatable to the masses. You might be more of a classical liberal. A classical liberal would believe in greater freedoms, less central government regulation, and more issues handled at a lower governmental level. I view myself as a classical liberal and would prefer many issues not to be handled at a national level, but rather at a state, and in many cases local level. It would probably shock some to learn that I don't care what you smoke, who you fornicate with, if you want an abortion or not, less laws would be better all the way around. What I do care about is being told I must compromise my principals to accommodate someone's 'feels'. As to the use of ridicule and insults. A cursory read of Alinsky will show you the play book very clearly. If you disagree with a secular progressive issue I can assure you that in short order you will be called racist, bigot, sexist, homophobic, and a slew of other unpleasant terms. Those spouting the insults either A) believe them or B - are just following Alinsky in using ridicule to isolate and discredit. That is why you are seeing the death of reasonable social discourse. Thank you for your time. Thanks for your response. I guarantee you that the vast majority of those you call secular progressives (which I kinda like the title myself, because I'm all for secularism in government and all for a lot of ideas I'd call progressive) have never read Alinski and never will. And you will note that I made the point that both sides are prone to name calling and ridicule. I have seen no evidence that one side is worse at it than the other. Do I think that some right wing folks are bigoted, sexist, homophobic? You bet I do, and their own words and actions show it. Just as some left wingers are guilty of everything you want to accuse them of. But the vast majority of folks on both sides are fairly reasonable. You threw out the words communist and socialist. Neither fit. Wanting a stronger central government is neither, it's federalist. Socialism and communism are more economic systems than anything else. Communism is demonstrably unworkable in practice, and even the countries that were formerly the staunchest believers in communism have put that system aside or modified it. Socialism has been proven to work after a fashion--at least some of the principles of it have worked. But when you look at this country and other western countries, you'll see very little pure socialism--there is a continuum from strongly capitalistic to strongly socialistic, and a lot of in between. As for wanting a stronger central government, in that you have to go issue by issue. Many liberals don't want a stronger central government overall, and many conservatives would be perfectly happy with federal government mandates as long as they fall into line with what they want on specific issues. Example: the original defense of marriage act and present calls for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as one man/one woman. I believe there are issues where the states and local governments should decide, and in fact I think that gun control issues fall into that category once you accept the basic premise of the Second Amendment. But there are a lot of issues where it's either unfair or unworkable for the states and local entities to decide. These include issues that involve the people's rights, which should be equal from one state to another, and issues that are not limited to borders, such as many environmental issues. I guarantee you I've never read Alinski and do not care to ever read anything he ever wrote. By assuming and asserting that those who disagree with your conservative principles must have secret agendas to turn the country into some kind of socialist/communist utopia, you are doing exactly what I hate to see, demonizing those who don't think the same way you do. mjk86 1
