There are more people that eat bass than you realize. There are still significant numbers of folks that go and keep every fish they consider big enough to eat. With one wildlife and Fisheries agent per county, they feel pretty safe about doing so and not all of them are terrible fisherman. Most of them are older and will eventually die off.

It's an odd situation to be in. Wanting to share information freely without this information harming the thing you love.

Yeah Ham you think your Azz is  infallible.

People. Destroy bass in a multitude of ways. They would over populate if none at all were taken. It the larger bass 4 lbs and up that seem to be getting rarer.

You nailed it there, Ham.

Jtram - you can be a linker.....just not a lurker ;)

I also missed the chat....not sure why though. I will make an effort to be on the next one...maybe not contributing though unless someone is bringing their 250 HP Bass boat to one of our famous no wake, 15' deep, 300 acre lakes....Power Poles are a must though...jersey's optional

Even though I live in Nebraska I like talking to and reading about the "on the water" stories....I know that TR is a clear water fishery but reading what guys like Champ, Bill, Dave (Ned Rig), others use technique wise is educational and I even follow Phil for what trout do....yes I am a closet trouter....it actually helps me make better decisions on the water ....not necessarily catch more or bigger fish mind you.

It lets me live vicariously though each catch and even argument ...consider the now infamous wopper plopper discussions which may be a close second to the Ned talk.

When I told my wife about the WP talk she questioned what type of site I was visiting!!..wow that sounds a bit sad.....but it also helps me for the few times I get to TR / Tany each year....yes I do selfishly use some of the info to try to catch money Bass i.e. Oakley but three years into it and I am still donating to the cause :( but I do get a free lunch right? O yeah and a rod!

You guys share great information and I am glad that there is another way to get it out to the rest of us!

Easy old timer. I don't think Ham meant anything personal or wished father time would take the elder statesmen of fisherman earlier so there would be less fish harverster's on public waterways. I think he is just saying that there will be a "changing of the guard' so to speak that  the younger generation is maybe a little more responsible with their selective harvest than some of the practices that we displayed back in the early 20th century and through into maybe the 1970's. My family has PLENTY of pics of stringers that could not hold another fish with proud people in those pics of their bounty for the day/week/trip. There is nothing wrong with that. But nowadays we just have to be a little smarter with a limited resource with MORE people after that resource with each growing year.

I'm not going to change anything... just thought I'd throw it out for discussion.

If I remember I will try to jump into the chat room.  Sadly I will have little to contribute as I don't fish TR, or for bass really, so to be honest it gets kind of boring for somebody like me.  So a little lurking to see what is being discussed and back out if nothing intrigues me is the norm.

One of the great thing about chat rooms is there can be multiple conversations going on at the same time.  I understand what you are saying and you should start a topic that interests you and those that want to join your conversation will gladly contribute while others are talking about something else.  It may sound confusing but somehow it works.

Here's a prime example. A buddy of mine that's a really good fisherman had a couple of neighbors that liked to fish, but they really weren't very good at it. He took them out and helped them learn how to catch more fish. He showed them a lot about the lake they would have spent years figuring out and taught them some techniques that they truly would have never learned without him. He is a C&R guy all the way. Well, his new apprentices have become somewhat proficent and are very proud to show him all the keepers they catch. They keep everything they catch that is legal up to the legal limit everytime they go out. They are retired and when the weather and the fish cooperate they may fish 5 days a week. Several of my buddy's favorite spots just are not nearly as productive anymore. He's having to find new spots which is tough because he really did know the lake pretty well. They picked up the skill set, but not the C&R ethic. They have no issue keeping a 20 inch bass to filet out. Big smallies taste just great to them. it doesn't matter to them that the fish took 10 years to grow. If he had it to do over again, he wouldn't show them ANYTHING, but that horse is out of the barn.

Fishing "secrets" have always been closely guarded.  I can remember my grandpa lying through his teeth to friends and neighbors and keeping all kinds of stuff TOP SECRET when it came to fishing related stuff.  It was without a doubt the only thing he ever lied about.  The way he hid his car and stuff you'd think he was cheatin' on my granny.
