fishinwrench Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 All good reels but I really have no use for any of them. Thanks though. There used to be an aftermarket gear set for the round reels that came in 3 different ratios. I even had several sets of them but lost them in the tornado. Can't remember who made them, and a Google search turns up nothing. I need one more 6.3:1 reel so I can have one rod dedicated to lipless baits since that has become a big part of my fishing style lately.
Gavin Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Bass pro sucks...the variety and profit out of all of its vendors. Same with Walmart. Prefer not to buy at either.
Ranger Z22 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I have over the past few years changed most of my round reels (5500C) to Lews. After fishing with Bill and using them, was what convinced me. I have had no problems so far with the reels I have bought from Lews. They are anywhere from the $100 reel to the $200 reel, all being used with specific rods. I am convinced I have made the right move going to this equipment. z22 Champ188 and big c 2
cheesemaster Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I will probably get slapped around for this but - I have 3 of the higher end Lews reels and have had 2 of them sent back to Lews for rework twice each and they are no better now than when I took them in. They replaced bearings, spools, lubed and oiled them with the same results. They were still less than 1 year old and I only fish weekends. The one reel is great!!! The other 2 reels are far from it. My 3 BP Pro Qualifier reels are 2 years older and out perform the 2 "bad" Lews hands down.

You know as much as I'm not a "house brand" guy, those are some really good reels. One of the Davis brothers talked my Dad into buying some and I was really surprised when I fished one. I'll probably never own any other than the ones he left but still really good reels.

I wasn't aware my Lew's reels had them when I first bought them because they also had magnetic brakes. Once I popped the palm plate off and saw the all four centrifugal brakes were in the "out" position and disengaged two of them, my reels picked up significant casting distance. crazy4fishin and Ranger Z22 2

All the brakes are set the exact same, and it's not really the casting distance that's bothering me. I throw a lot of crankbaits and the whole reel sounds bad and has a vibration in them on a long cast. Drives me crazy.
