Terrierman Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I was a BPS Saturday. Bought Nano, Invisx and Maxima to give me something to do one of these warm days heading our way. Ham 1
Norm M Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 If it's the visibility of the line that is an issue take a permanent marker and make some blotches on the spool of line. It breaks up the outline of the line . I've tried everything from 832, nano, fluro, braid, mono and coploy. I use copoly or mono and don't feel that it effects the catch rate compared to the others. Mitch f 1 what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends
MOPanfisher Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 A few years ago I gave up mono line completely. All my reels have braid. Heaviest is 14 on a worm/jig rod. Crappie rods have 6 or 8 lb Nanofil. Absolutely love it. Clear water (clear enough to watch a crappie hit), smallmouth streams, etc. I am also lazy so even though it doesn't handle abrasion well and caused me to retire more often I don't do leaders. I did have to learn to loosen up my drag a little so that on the Hook set it will slip slightly since it doesn't stretch. Have had people tell me it spooks fish, as I am fishing next to them catching just as many fish as they are. It does suck when below freezing as it will quickly become non functional. I have had same braid on some reels for 5 years no memory. Ham 1

I stopped pulling when the tires started smoking. And that was using 4 lb. Invisx. The only post in this entire thread that is gonna make me reply Thanks for the laugh! John

David Unnerstall Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I think my experiment with FC is over. 1) I saw no improvement in the number of fish I caught. 2) I have damaged fingers and tying knots is not fun. 3) And it is annoying dragging the knot though the ferrules.
Old plug Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I can understand the use of a leader on a fly rod. On other than that I do not believe there is a reason for it. Fish know there is something on the end of that lure because lure movement, reeling ,dragging over something makes vibrations they can sense. You yourself can feel them all the way up to the rod most of the time. This stuff about OMG they can see line is hodwash. Sure they Know its there. It is not what your line is doing that interest them it is what the lure is doing at the end. Every time this conversation comes up it also includes line strength and what one is the strongest. I use Pro Bass mono. Cannot remember the last time I had a fish break off. 99% of the breakoffs come from bad knots and abrasion. Then there is the stuff of Trying to horse a fish in. While that usually results in a pull off it can also come from line failure.
