shark bait Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Don't forget lightning can travel 10 miles so that needs to be kept in mind. Be safe! Becky B

It wasn't stormy but it was a good steady soaking rain. We pulled into an open spot on a dock near where we were fishing just to eat some lunch. I think we had made it in there before a truck started heading down the hill from the house above. He slid to a stop next to the ramp and came running towards us with something in his hand. Turned out to just be a big thermos of coffee and plenty of cups, sugar, and creamer. Super great guy. I didn't see that one coming. I still say there are more nice people in the world than there are mean people. We just hear more about the mean ones. Bill Babler Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I've probably posted this but a few years ago on Taney a really fast moving lightning storm blew up and I pulled into a dock. It was raining cats and dogs and the lightning was terrible. The dock owner rushed down with a shotgun in his hands and a huge dog foaming at the mouth and demanded I take my two female clients back out into the rain and lighting. I told him to just go ahead and shoot me and feed me to the dog cause we were not leaving till it stopped lightning. Dock was totally empty with nothing but a stall and a roof. He yelled profanities at us and went running back up his ramp saying he was calling the police and we would be arrested. We sat there a good 30 minutes and he nor the police never made a second appearance.  On another note.  at our dock at Shell Knob my brother in law had his tarp cut with a fillet knife to remove a lure. It was easy to see where the trebles got caught in a top seam of the tarp and the guy used a knife to cut it out of his tarp. Why? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 We got caught by a fast mover at Tablerock a few years ago. I slipped into an open stall in our rental boat. It was really a lot of lightening. A lady came running down and started yelling at us to get out of the boat and come up to the house. We just sat it out and we talked to her after it passed.  She was real nice. Quillback Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 You guys have all the fun, I have pulled into dock stalls a couple of times and have yet have anyone yell at me or offer coffee.  😄   BilletHead 1
GNSfishing Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 There’s good and bad in all people. I’m not sure what could happen if you’re forced out into real bad weather and was struck by lightning or a swamp boat by gun point and a death occurred due to that action. Also with their dock setting on public waters their structure maybe private but the water isn’t. Would be a civil issue and a costly one. Anyone here a lawyer and would like to put in their 2 cents.

I'm no lawyer (obviously) but I live on a lake that has more docks than any lake in the world, possibly, and I have never heard of a single case where anyone was arrested/fined/sued/or even got a pillow thrown at them for being in/on someone's dock without permission. We have a friend that is a dispatcher and according to her they get calls occasionally, especially during Winter, with people reporting guys crappie fishing on their dock, and I think it's safe to say that the ones who enforce the laws around here don't take those reports very seriously. I think the bottom line is:. If you own a dock then buy some insurance so if something gets vandalized, stolen, or otherwise damaged then you can recover your loss.  Having a dock on public water is no different than parking your car in a city park or a shopping center parking lot.
Bill Babler Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I kind of alluded the same thing. I told him we were not getting out or even going to tie up, just sit out the lightning. Still was a horses Pa-Tute.  Quite a few years ago up at Shell Knob I stopped at the old Bass Haven Resort to clean a dozen crappie. This dock is at the bottom of a huge bluff going into the Kings River. A voice from above asked me what I was doing and I said, " I just stopped to clean a couple of fish in your sink if that's Ok?." Never answered me back and never heard another word so I have no idea who or what said it. I'm still a bit spooked as there was no camera we could find and no speaker. My client thought if was divine intervention. Kind of like Wrench said for the first 26 years of my life I probably walked a huge percentage at the time of docks on Lake of the Ozarks in the Winter crapppie fishing. Never had anyone squack nary a peep about it.  I will tell you there were not near the amount of full time residents living there in the 60's 70's and early 80's. Most times then there were no boats in the docks either, as there were very few lifts. Most everyone stored their boats in dry storage or took them home. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

A drunk guy in Alaska decides to go ice fishing. He starts sawing a hole in the ice, when a loud booming voice says, "You will find no fish there." The drunk looks up, ignores it, and continues on. The voice booms again, "You will find no fish under the ice." The drunk looks up and says, "God, is that you?" The voice says, "No, I'm the manager of this ice rink." m&m, Bass Yakker, Terrierman and 2 others 1 4
Blazerman Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Our condo at LOTO is right by the Grand Glaize bridge. One spring while we were crappie fishing in my boat not far from the condo the sky start looking pretty dark to the southwest and I said to my buddy, looks like we might get some rain. Not a minute later the storm sirens went off and a loud speaker on the bridge announced a that a tornado warning had been issued for our area. I did not know they did that and we heeded the warning and headed to the dock. Once we got there and tied up in our slip the wind started kicking up and the rain started but we were under cover so I dropped a crappie jig in one of the slips and it got bit by a crappie before it had sunk 12 inches. And it was a nice one. So I threw it in the live well and dropped the jig again. And got another one right away. Told my buddy to drop his jig in and he had one just as fast. So we ended up staying on that dock and the whole time the storm was blasted the area with the wind and rain going sideways and lightning crashing all over. We kept looking for a tornado but never did see one so we kept fishing and had two real nice limits of crappie in probably 30 minutes. snagged in outlet 3, Bass Yakker, Champ188 and 1 other 4
