fozzype Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I have been using flouro to braid leaders for a while now. I pretty much tie the modified albright (alberto) with 8 wraps each direction. I have had zero issues with it and the lighter leader always breaks and not the knot...until recently. I tried some 14lb nanofill and the flouro would slip out of the knot rather than break the flouro 6lbs leader. Also, I really, really like the 832 suffix. When using 8 or 10 lb leaders with 20lbs suffix, I have had some of the same issues. The flouro simply is gone out of the knot when I get hung up and pull on it hard. Also, have broken some on hookset. Previously I used spiderwire ultra cast or power pro... Anybody else see the same issue with the 832 suffix. I really like this stuff other than the leader knot issue B. Foz
Members lollygagger Posted May 17, 2016 Members Posted May 17, 2016 Try a double uni-knot to see if it is a line issue.....you can test it in your yard using a tree. podum and dan hufferd 2

DADAKOTA Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 That would sure indicate a good knot. A truly great knot would cut, split and stack the wood though. mixermarkb 1
Unimog Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I use the double uni for my braid to fluoro leaders with good results. Typically 20# slick 8 power pro to 8# fc. The typical surgeons knot wouldn't hold. dan hufferd 1
dan hufferd Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Yep double uni. I have tied it on all kinds of stuff. Make sure to wet your line before cinching it down, if not you will compromise the leader, and it will break right below the knot. I tied right to the jig fishing for crappie, I used moss green 10# it worked very well. If I got hung up I just wrapped something around the line and straighten the hook out, or break the hook.
MOPanfisher Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I normally tie directly to my crappie jig or other lure with braid. I have Nanofil on two rods and have been experimenting a little with leaders, and using a blood knot. Early in I had terrible luck with the knot, as it would often as not slip right out. Finally had to add a couple wraps, especially with nanofil, and be sure to slobber it up good before cinching it down. Still don't use them much but do have a 6# leader on my 8# nanofil to use with a Ned Rig. I may have to break down and just go bass fishing to see if can catch anything on a Ned.
eyedabassman Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 You want to keep the line Diameter's close in lb's. but 6 lb. to 20 lb. line and the knots will slip! You want to keep the line Lb. ( or Diameter's) with a pound or to of each other!
Blll Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Always used the double uni but have tried and liked another knot. Don't know the name but learned it from a Shaw Grigsby you tube. It makes a smaller knot going through the guides. It involves a clinch knot. Easy to tie and holds fine. magicwormman 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Alberto knot works great and if you don't tie it right it just pulls apart. Seth and grizwilson 2
