moguy1973 Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Being this is my first boat and I'm getting it ready to be winterized I need to know if it's OK to: (A) keep the batteries hooked up in the boat all winter (B) keep the batteries on the charger/tender all the time while stored. The boat will be stored in a lightly insulated garage. I have my trolling motors on a 2 bank on board charger and I have a tender for my cranking battery. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
fishinwrench Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 If you are for sure not going to use the boat for several months then go ahead and disconnect the ground lead, check the electrolyte level, and fully charge the battery. I don't like the idea of leaving chargers hooked up all Winter because nasty things have been known to happen (boats and houses burnt down) but it sure doesn't hurt to throw a charger on it once a month or so, for an hour or two, just to keep the juice stirred up. skeeter 1
Guest Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I could write an entire blog about batteries, trailer lights, wheel bearings & ethanol. Sometimes owning a boat is a headache.

Guest Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I was told that you store batteries on the cold concrete floor in your garage. Then ask why they're dead in March when its time to get the boat out.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 You know the concrete floor battery thing is totally false. Its kinda like the catfish by the dam the size of Volkswagens tale. tho1mas, Sore Thumbs and grizwilson 3
David Unnerstall Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I just don't see any physical reason why proximity to concrete will harm a lead acid battery.
