That's insane! I usually carry when i'm on the river as well especially if i'm going to be alone.

In this day and age I don't leave home without one hardly anymore...

Had a car roll up on me and my cuz down at Taneycomo one night around 2:30AM  Came tearing into the parking lot and flying up towards where we were parked and slammed on the brakes in the spot next to ours.

We had just gotten out of the water and I thinks thats the fastest I was ever able to drop my net vest and pop the waders...

They just asked us how the fishing was and then tore off out of there.  I'm guessing the local bars closing may of had something to do with it, but got the blood pumping for sure that night.  I was IWB carrying and thought jeez maybe I need a chest rig for easier access.  Sad really :( but I refuse to be a victim.

Surprise anyone would give you crap for carrying though.  Wasn't the land dispute shooting also on the Meramec?

I live in Kirkwood Missouri one of the biggest bastions for liberal anti gun freaks in the state. A lot of my friends when they see me with a shoulder harness and a Sig tucked in there get scared and I have seen comments on this forum that would suggest that I am a afraid because I carry. It's no biggie but, the criminal element that exist in this country is appalling.

My dad worked in the city most of his life.  When he retired it was a huge relief as he said he watched the city get worse and worse. I worked down in the city off Grand when i was younger too.  When you see someone get shot and car jacked and just how fast it all goes down it puts a new perspective on reality for you...

My wife used to not understand why I carried pretty much everywhere I went since we first allowed CCW here when we were younger.

Just read the news for a few days, and after watching the airport, mall, and movie theater shootings she "gets it" even more so now that we have kids.  Kids really turned her into mamma bear and turned her from 'not so sure about guns' into asking me before we go out if I am "good to go".  That's our code word around the little ones...

I'm fine being labeled as scared.  99% of the time everything's fine, its the 1% situation that I hope to never encounter that keeps me sharp.

Rarely do I go to the river anymore without my side arm.  And I mean RARELY.

At the same time, I pray for safety each trip before leaving in hopes that I don't end up in a situation that would force me to use it.

darn, that's one of the few meramec accesses I've never been to. And mainly cause I just haven't got around to it yet. Yeah that sure makes you think. I sometimes have a gun in the car but I haven't had the concealed carry license so I never had it directly on me. I've had a few strange cars show up that made me think about grabbing it out of it but thankfully it never needed to be the done. I'd consider it now with that whole free to concealed carry thing but then I'd also be worried that I drop it in the water or something. What are some good holsters for wading, kayaking, and active types of fishing like that?

I very very seldom carry when I go fishing, nothing against it for sure, just I am always thinking things like I am gonna lose it in the river etc., or I don't want to get it wet, but soon enough I will purchase something I am not worried about getting wet, likely something like a small Glock 9mm or may a stainless Taurus in .38 spl.  or heck who knows.  I certainly have no problem with folks carrying when they go fishing, floating, camping, I do have a problem with those very few who decide that their pistol if for shooting at rocks, cans turtles as they float or camp though.

That's what the CO2 BB pistol is for.

I don't think this is a weapon or conceal and carry issue.  Some ones daughter (probably) was murdered and then dismembered and burned in a public place.

Its not about you and your weapon.

Yet another sad story with a predictable ending.
