aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Has anyone seen or played with these yet http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gene_Larew_Ned_Rig_Inch_Worm_7pk/descpage-GLNR.html
Ham Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I have not and will not in the foreseeable future. I'm a cut zinker guy. I think the elaztech plastic is special. I think it makes the deal. If the water was cold and I wanted less action, I would use a non elaztech stick bait. I appreciate the various soft plastics designs Gambler brings to the table and the color variations. I'm just not into their Ned worm. eyedabassman, dtrs5kprs, motoman and 4 others 7 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Blll Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 As this presentation becomes more mainstream, I'm sure many bait makers will offer up their "improved" version on the bait. I'm kinda a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" guy. I prefer the cut Zinker over the T.R.D. I have a friend in California who uses a 1/4 oz ned head and the larger size T.R.D. fishing in 25-35 fow. I guess you do need to adapt to where you fish. dtrs5kprs 1
dtrs5kprs Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I'm sure it will catch a few fish. It won't be better than the cut Zinkerz/Zero. Nothing has been. I've played with about everything made for it, and that could conceivably fit. Cut Fattyz tails, cut down finesse wormz, variety of little craws, hand pours, o. And on. Day in and out nothing beats the cut stick, including the TRD. All of the others may have an anecdotal moment, that's about it. If you stop and think about it, that Larew worm is designed to do things that go directly against the concept. More movement, more built in action. That's not what it's about. There are days when they get picky or touchy. Right during (as in paired up), and just after the spawn are two times it's good to have options ready.
crazy4fishin Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 OKay in a moment of "buying fishing stuff weakness" at our local Cabelas I did buy a package (don't judge me!!)....well two of these and yeah they have their place but they are not a good replacement for the cut Z....one or two fish and the bait is toast....not sliding down the hook thing but completely cut in half or less!!! So you would go through more than the average Z about for sure.....and they do not catch as many in my opinion. Please forgive me my internet fishing friends as I have strayed from the path as a form of repentance I have made myself retire all of my baits this week!! dtrs5kprs Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 You wouldn't believe some of the little plastic junk, or pieces of big plastic junk, I've dragged behind that little jig. It all made sense, none of it was better. Part of that is simply the material and flotation. Other is that a lot runs contrary to the less is more idea. Couple that do have a place... Tiny Brush Hog- the itty bitty 15ct one. Has its moments in post spawn, early June. Half of a 4" Zoom Lizard. Same deal as the tiny hog. There is just a week or so where they want a little curly tail action. Finesse Shadz- fishes differently. More finesse, less bulk. Seems to sort for size at times. crazy4fishin 1
