grizwilson Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Almost the perfect weather for the little guys. Ill be taking an early look this next week as well. Supposed to stay around sixties and seventies for highs so can't imagine they will stay hidden me h longer. Some were poking their little noses out this morning just west of Clever, a bit of sun and it is on. BilletHead Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 After Grizwilson's intel Mrs. BilletHead and I hit the woods. No good eating morels to be found but did spy some poisonous ones! I now a neighbor that would ask me to pick him all I found. He is dead now and eating these may of put him over the edge at 86 . Have other friends who eat these too but we choose not to. We found ten scattered in a four foot radius. Big Red False Morel. I am not sure why they call it that as to me they look nothing like a morel. https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/big-red-false-morel BilletHead's will have their eyes peeled! tho1mas, Johnsfolly and rps 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" ness Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Map from Facebook. Looked in one of my spots yesterday -- zilch. We've gotten rain, and had some warm temps lately, but it was pretty cool yesterday. John
BilletHead Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 The BilletHead's score! Made a trip to the metropolis of Springfield to dink around today. Mrs. BilletHead kept telling me we had to get things done and go home to look for shrooms. Well as soon as we got home it was come on lets look. We checked three places and found some where we typically can find a few early ones. The other two places were a scratch. May of been some there but the leaves are heavy and thick there and the little buggers could of been under the forest duff. First three found were tiny, Then the finding got a bit better, BilletHead Johnsfolly, MOPanfisher, grizwilson and 1 other 4 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" jdmidwest Posted March 29, 2017 Author Posted March 29, 2017 Good looking grays. I hit a spot today, still nothing. Going to hit Illinois over the weekend, sunshine on Sat should get them popping.
