Members LWW Posted May 21, 2017 Members Posted May 21, 2017 I've been experimenting with the plopper, was wondering if anyone has better luck popping it or a steady retrieve? I'm 50/50 w/ my home waters here in OK, but wondered how Table Rock bass prefer it? Will be back up after Memorial Day, looking forward to trying it!
eyedabassman Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I have caught them at a steady retrieve but you have to find the wright speed!
fishinwrench Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 The only true niche I've found for the WP is being able to make a really long cast parralel to the bank and keep it coming at the speed that makes the most noise, no pauses/twitches. The fish tend to follow it for a ways, sometimes until yet another fish begins to follow it also, then one of them will get anxious and hammer it. IMO the only thing that makes it better than anything else is the fact that you can cast it 1/4 mile. vernon, magicwormman, marcus and 5 others 8
Members LWW Posted May 22, 2017 Author Members Posted May 22, 2017 Thanks fishinwrench, I'll keep that in mind as I experiment a little bit! It's hard for me to put the jig stick down, but always love a good top water bite!
fishinwrench Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I could certainly be proven wrong but I don't get excited about the WP or buzzbait bite until late Fall. To me, Springtime topwater stuff needs to move alot without traveling very far, or sit still. Poppers, Spooks, Hollow bodied frogs....stuff like that. magicwormman 1

Wrench, I think what you're saying is true for lakes with colored water, like LOZ. But I've found over the years that they'll often respond better to a steady retrieve in clear water like TR. Thus the late spring wake bait bite on the clear lakes. Royal Blue, fishinwrench, MGP and 3 others 6

top_dollar Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Its my opinion that if your topwatwr fishing you need a buzzer and a walker, sometimes for some reasons (idk the reason) they really want one over the other. Ive had several times where the crazy flapper outfished the pad crasher and vice versa when fished in the same area. Same thing with buzz baits and top dollars. Sometimes they just want one over the other. dtrs5kprs, Champ188, MGP and 2 others 5

And not nearly as challenging as trying to figure them out. dtrs5kprs, skeeter and magicwormman 3
m&m Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Amen. The fish win more times than I do. Mike magicwormman, big c and Carl W 3
