97procraft Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Is there a size limit for keeping walleye on Tanney? Over the years I have read that several of you guys have caught them but no one ever tells of keeping them.

Over the years I have read that several of you guys have caught them but no one ever tells of keeping them. 3 I would not keep one less than 15" as it appears to be a state wide rule with more restrictive on other waters, I see no exception on Taney, SR 10-6.540 Walleye and Sauger C PURPOSE: This rule establishes seasons, methods and limits for taking walleye and sau (1) Daily Limit: Four (4) in the aggregate, except on the Mississippi River, the daily and possession limit is eight (8). (2) Methods: Pole and line, trotline, throw- line, limb line, bank line or jug line. (3) Seasons: Throughout the year, except that from February 20 through April 14 walleye and sauger may be taken and possessed only between one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise to one-half (1/2) hour after sunset in the Swan Creek Arm of Bull Shoals Lake above High- way 160 and in the unimpounded portions of all streams except the Mississippi and Mis- souri rivers. Walleye and sauger may not be possessed on waters or banks thereof during closed seasons or closed hours. (4) Length Limits: All walleye and sauger le must be returned to the water unharmed immediately after being caught, except: (A) All walleye and sauger less than eigh- teen inches (18") in total length must be returned to the water unharmed immediately after being caught from Bull Shoals Lake and its tributaries, Current River and its tribu- taries, Eleven Point River and its tributaries, Long Branch Lake, Norfork Lake and its tributaries, Table Rock Lake and Wappapello Lake and its tributaries including the St. Francis River and its tributaries above Wap- papello Dam. (B) On the Mississippi River, there is no length limit on walleye and sauger ss than fifteen inches (15") in total length JestersHK and bfishn 2 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein

Johnsfolly Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Finally got to editing the photos that JestersHK took while he and I were fishing last Sat. I caught the smallmouth and walleye on a stickbait and the sucker on a 1/8 oz marabou zig jig. Smallmouth - since I was hoping for a brown trout this was the wrong brown fish for Sat night but a nice fighting fish. My PB walleye (ok only my second walleye ever) - estimated 19 to 20" This fish fought so hard that I was convinced that it was a brown trout, but it wasn't. It's likely a white sucker, but I know a guy that knows about these fishes. So hopefully he will confirm the id of this fish. By the way, JestersHK's grip didn't taste so good . What can you do when night fishing? No pictures of the procession of rainbows. Did catch a few with some serious shoulders. Seemed to fight harder at night. I hope to get down there again soon. JHK put us on the fish! BilletHead and JestersHK 2
Seth Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Yep, that is a white sucker. My buddy caught a norther hog sucker across from Fall Creek a couple years ago on a countdown Rapala of all things. He threw his lure out, got a loop in his reel and it laid on the bottom for a bit. When he fixed his tangle and reeled his line tight, it started to fight back! We have caught a bunch of white suckers over the years down there, but this is the only hog sucker I'm aware of. JestersHK 1
MOPanfisher Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Taneycomo used to have a lot of white suckers in it years ago when I lived down there. Spent some memorable days grabbing suckers on Roark Creek. Haven't seen that area in years. Have had people tell me while gigging a brown trout looks an awful lot like a sucker, but I never saw one while gigging or grabbing.
Haris122 Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Seth, what did you guys catch the white suckers on the best over the years?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Oneshot uses red wigglers I believe. Haris122 1
