no one should want to get take a hit from a venomous snake, but in this country fatalities are extremely unlikely and the new antivenin takes 99% of the risk out of using an antivenin.

I have 11 grandkids that come to my house out in the woods and if I see poisonous snake on my property it will be a dead snake....black snakes are welcomed.

A Snake left alone isnt going to bite anyone either. Dogs are a much bigger threat to people in this country than snakes are, but most ppl frown pretty hard if you just roll up a start popping Caps into Fluffy.

Until I did a quick search I didn't even know there was an anti venom for a copperhead bite.  I have never been concerned over whether or not folks like or don't like snakes, or kill them if in their yard.  Out in the wild if you feel threatened do what you feel you need to do, if they aren't bothering you, have a short case of the shivers and continue on with whatever you are doing.  Personally I am more like to get bitten than someone like Vernon, because I am likely to try to catch and mess with it, cause that's just me.  Now red wasps, they are evil and viscious, kill every nest you find, I hate them things.

As far as I know nobody carries anti venom with them, it is prescribed by a doctor, and sometimes hard to find, and I think given via an IV, but others will have better knowledge than me on that.

Change that to "some snakes left alone" and I would even tend to agree. Rattlesnakes and copperheads might be able to be given a wide berth. Might, if you can see them, there aren't more you don't see, aren't a child, etc.

Cottonmouths are a different critter altogether. Those things will try to get in the boat with you.

Crofab is IV only. Must be reconstituted immediately prior to administration. There really is no need to tote antivenin in the field. You would be better off having an epi pen on the off chance that you would be allergic to the bite.

Crofab is poly valent. It works for crotalids which includes rattlesnakes, cottonmouth, and Copperheads. It won't help for coral snakes or poisonous snakes from other countries.
