MOPanfisher Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I will say that how you feel about shoreline management rules depends entirely upon your outlook. If you are someone who is looking to buy a lake home well who wouldn't want a dock close by and handy. If you are a realtor, having dock space to include with a home or lot sure makes it easier to sell and at a higher price. If you already have a lake home and dock having more docks on the lake makes your home and dock less special and thus less valuable. If you are the county government, more docks equals more people buying and spending in the county, and increasing the tax revenues. Mire docks equals more people and boats, increasing the number of accidents and problems for law enforcement. If you like to fish docks more isn't bad, if you like the pristine natural shoreline docks are ugly. If you used to have a natural view from your home and suddenly there is a big ole dock there you may or may not be happy. Suffice it to say there is zero possibility to satisfy everyone or even come close. Terrierman, tapout, snagged in outlet 3 and 5 others 8

And of course most of them are there for the paycheck. How many people aren't? Like most jobs in America and around the world you do what you're told to do or you go do something else. I've personally witnessed numerous exchanges when COE leaders were trying passionately to dissuade politicians from proceeding with what they believed to be harmful legislation to little or no avail but at the end of the day the COE ain't in charge or making the final decision. When employed by the federal government not doing what you're told can land you in jail. Most of the higher ups in the COE are active duty, green suit wearing Army officers who will be mowing grass at Ft. Leavenworth if they decide they know better than those they work for. Not everything is like what you see in Washington and on TV. Really - I worked as a contractor for the Department of Energy for 35 years as an engineer in the nuclear weapons business. There were many times I did tell them "to shove" or the like. One time I was told to "Sign off on the f____ drawings or find another job". I told the CEO to sign the f____ drawings himself as it was unethical if not illegal. I believe there is only one right. In the case of the TR shore management plan, I don't know the right answer but I doubt that the politicians have the right answer nor do I understand why they are involved other than their own self interest. I wrote numerous letters to the COE and all the legislators at the time the Indian Ridge project was allowing tons of dirt to wash into North Indian. Never got a response but one day a lawyer showed up from the EPA from St. Louis to talk to me. Funny thing he was pulling a bass boat. He got himself an expense paid trip to the lake. In the end the Indian Ridge project was fined by the EPA. Yep sometimes you just need to lay it all on the line. dtrs5kprs and Browning Guy 2
Champ188 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Hey, here's an idea. Ol' Johnny is a grand champion for everything to do with fishing, conservation and all such as that, right? And we know he has strong political ties on every level. Surely we can count on him not to let our lake go to the wakers. 😆 bobby b. 1

All I know is that my big mouth and trying to fight the good fight just kept me from getting any farther than I did career wise. You were obviously much better at what you did than I was and a more valuable asset or they wouldn't have let you get away with it either. I wish there were more guys like you around - in a high enough position of authority to make a difference and then actually doing something about it. Unfortunately, as I alluded to earlier, most of the guys in those positions in the COE are active duty soldiers and that kind of thinking and arrogance is kind of frowned upon and is typically dealt with swiftly and with career ending consequences. And not every hill is worth dying on. Champ188 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." George Carlin "The only money ever wasted is money never spent." Me.
