To me it's a sport completely out of control. The regatta page for LofO  shows 54 bass tournaments for the Lake of the Ozarks in Oct.  First of all 99% of the tournaments are a waste of time if your looking to make money.   Their are a select group of anglers that might be able to make a few dollars, but  most in the long run will go broke trying.  I'm all for people enjoying the competition of the sport and the businesses that rely on this economic boost, but there has to be some kind of sensible limits involved.

It is definitely out of control.  I suspected that it was getting there so quite awhile back I composed a non-biased email to MDC.  I didn't want it to be obvious whether I was for or against the hauling around and relocating of fish but was just someone who was concerned whether it was "ok" or not.    I also asked that if it was doing no harm at the current rate of bass relocation....then at what point would it be considered as something that needed to be regulated.

After 8 weeks without a reply I resent the email, and cc'd it to every email I could find with an interest in Mo. fishing conservation.

Now more than 6 months later I still have not received a reply....from anyone.     They won't weigh-in on this topic (pun intended) and the reason why they either don't want to talk about it, or have been instructed not to discuss it, is wide open for conspiracy theory.

If I had asked about ANYTHING ELSE I would have gotten a reply within 48 hours, guaranteed.   Could have asked about butterflies, could have asked about two-headed snakes, could have asked about shad, anything...and I would have gotten a lengthy and well composed reply.   But not this.   So whaddya do?

Like every thing else, it all comes down to money and what can bring in the most. Boating and big boats come first along with everything that goes with them like fuel, restaurants/ bars , places to stay while at the lake. And of course selling bigger and bigger boats.

Fishing would be second and there is a lot of money made by all involved thanks to people participating in tournaments so no one wants to change the status quo. Including the MDC.

This coupled with the fact that on paper, you've got consistent tournament sacks that lead anybody reading from a distance to believe the population of bass are thriving. I don't see an end in sight, unfortunately.

I looked up Kentucky Lake's October 2017 tournament listing for sh*ts and gigs... eight tournaments. Eight.

The tournament organizers aren't stupid, they make it a point to do all kinds of special crap for "kids" and "cops" and "firefighters" and "military groups" so that their bread is buttered all the way to the crust.    I love competitive fishing and certainly don't want it to stop all together, but it is far past due for some changes in scoring as it continues to grow in popularity.   It's cool that you like kids, cops, and vets, but there are lots of ways to love them that don't involve collecting all the keeper bass in the lake and taking them back to the boat ramp.

Appreciate that.  But pffft, you can't do anything about it.  It makes kids, cops, and veterans happy, so until we convince THEM....... it ain't gonna change.

I don't recall anything in MDC's mission statement about pandering for economic gain.  They are supposed to be concerned about things like constant relocating of wildlife for monetary gain, and crap like that.

I wanna throw a copperhead and cottonmouth tournament and have the weigh-in and release right in front of Fitz Tackle shop or Bassin' Bob's place.

Oh don't worry, they'll go back to where they were caught from. 😀 And we'll be sure to fly old glory and the blue lines flag,  and play the national anthem at least twice.  Kids need to learn about catching snakes for money.

Thought you were a leach guy Wrench.  I do like the idea of letting the snakes find their way home.  Point driven home.  Unfortunately those who need to read this never will.

Gosh wonder who will get the Missouri conservation department to listen first? Wrench and bass dispersal after tournaments or MoCarp convincing the department that carp are good for Missouri waters? My money is on wrench! Go wrench go,
