Basfis Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Eating carp seems like “going ugly early “. It’s a valid option and it’s not widely viewed as top notch. snagged in outlet 3, fishinwrench and Gavin 3
Seth Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Truth be told, I have had asian carp a couple different ways and it was pretty durn good! The first way was pressure cooked with seasoning salt and lemon pepper and turned in to fish patties. Another time, a guy fried some that he had cleaned up so they were just a boneless strip. Either way is more work than I want to put in to them, but I guess if I was starving...... I've never messed with common carp. The meat always looked yellow and reminded me of a nasty ol channel cat. One guy I know pickled some grass carp that wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I could eat a lot of. I'd rather eat pickled cukes, peppers or okra. snagged in outlet 3 1

Never had grass carp, but I've had buffalo and common carp from LOZ and thought they were both good taste-wise, after removing all of the really red meat, but I can never get enough of the bones out to make it as high on my list as some who are better at it. I've scored and used hot hot peanut oil, but I think my scoring spacing was too wide. Seth 1
96 CHAMP Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 22 hours ago, Seth said: Whites shouldn't need soaking or be fishy at all if you get the red meat off. I prefer the consistency of the flesh of a white bass over a crappie when fried. Also, if you freeze the fillets with the red still on, that fishy taste will permeate the rest of the fillet. That is the first time I have soaked them, a buddy of mine does that so I tried it, I agree that getting the red out is the ticket though Seth 1
96 CHAMP Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Wrench, I say the heck with whites, I’ll get a fly rod and we will head to beaver next fall. http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2017/dec/26/small-flies-catch-big-stripers-at-beave fishinwrench 1

The whites sure insulted me plenty during Fall 2017. I still blame the douchebags at the dam. There was no reason to suck the lake that low beginning the first week of October, no reason at all. 96 CHAMP 1
stuartsx5 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Hate to show up late for the party but I just seen this today. I have had a very successful season on the whites, one of the best in recent years. I hope this cold snap doesn't send them too deep. I soak mine in salt water for 24 hours then basically fillet the red meat out then trim any remnants. My family loves the whites. We all like a thicker fillet. To me a crappie is easily overcooked. Don't get me wrong, I do like the spring crappie run and a good crappie fish fry but nothing beats the way a white hammers a jig and takes off. Just a few pics of some white bass first timers I was able to take out on the water this year. Happy New Year everyone. BilletHead and Blazerman 2 Earl Stuart fishin is livin
