Depends:

Jerkbaits:  10b

Flipping: 50lb briad

Jig: 30-40lb braid and 12-17lb leader

Topwater: 20lb braid and 15lb mono leader

Crank baits: 10-12lb flouro or 20lb braid with a long leader

If I had 1 rod:  30lb braid and lots of different leaders to change applications

I agree it depends on what you are using the reel for.  I keep it real simple - IMHO

All topwater:  50 lb braid

All bottom baits - 20 lb flouro  (jigs, C-rig, shaky head, plastic worm, creature baits)

All crankbait, spinnerbait, jerk bait, 10 lb flouro

I don't use a leader except on C-rig as it is just one more knot that might break.

Be old and having old ways I use 12lb all the time. There is nothing in LOZ that issuing to get off of 12lb line unless it has teeth. Whit catfish and gar I sometimes use a leader. But if a real good one gets away its does not bother me in the least.

You must not fish behind docks with jigs much......

I like using 15# for the majority of my fishing on the rivers. My cranking setup has 10-12# and spinning has 15# braid with 8-10# fluorocarbon leader. If I go up to LoZ and plan on skipping jigs around docks, then I will bump up to 20# fluorocarbon.

I’m really starting to like the braided main line with flouro leader. Better feel,lower cost and stronger. I still like 10-15lb flouro on my cranks depending on the cover. If you are using it for multiple applications I would think 12-15 lb flouro would take care of most situations. Topwater would require braid or monofilament only because flouro sinks.

I've started throwing 8lb Maxima with my cranks and jerkbaits, and I'm pleased with the results.  I like 10 or 12lb Maxi for swimbaits and finesse jigs, then 50lb braid for topwater, heavy jigs, etc. I've sized up in the last few years on braid, simply because the larger diameters don't seem to dig as much.  I have some 20 and 30lb braid on a few rods, but they haven't gotten much love recently.

I'm In the middle of cleaning reels and changing line now- and I'm gonna go off topic a bit and include spinning-

I'll second Champ, and rave about Sunline products. Best Flourocarbon I've used, Sniper handles better and seems less stretchy than Invisix, Shooter is just the best line i've ever used for bottom bait applications. It's low stretch and super sensitive, but doesn't feel like wire. Yes, good line is expensive, so 50 pound braid backing on all casting reels, btw. You can save quite a bit by using backing and just putting a couple casts worth of money line on, instead of a whole spool.

Here is what's going on my junk this year.

ned/grubs/tubes on spinning= 7# Sunline Sniper FC in green

jerkbait= 10# Sunline Sniper FC

crankbaits= 12# Sunline Sniper FC

finesse jig, senko/fluke, wobbleheads, bladed jigs= 14# Sunline Shooter

topwater/spinnerbaits/squarebills= 17# Sunline Defier Armillo mono

football jigs/Crigs= 20# Sunline Shooter

flipping jigs/creature baits= 20# Sunline flipping FC

Arigs/swimbaits= 30# Sunline Shooter FC
