huntest Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I think all the outboards available today are good but I do have some reservations about Brunswick Corporation. They have had difficulty with a variety of ventures since making a great bowling ball. It took Harley Davidson years to recover from the Brunswick years. In addition, there are few domestic companies that have comparable R & D resources to global juggernauts like Bombardier, Honda, Yamaha, etc. Examples include: Yamaha and Tohatsu have provided Mercury outboard powerheads and parts for years. Porsche makes the engine for Harley VRod motorcycles. Yamaha supplies engines to Ford, Volvo and Toyota. Bombardier builds Lear Jets. Darn hard to compete with. fishinwrench and Quillback 1 1
motoman Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Crappiemaster; that 92 looks in great shape. Not sure who told you parts are hard to find for the Evinrude?...........but, don’t believe them. I had an 86 150 Evinrude for years; just sold it 5 years ago and handled all maintenance myself. Never had an issue finding parts. I’m guessing whoever told you Evinrude parts are hard to find, drank the Mercury blind-loyalty Kool-Air too.:-( vernon and fishinwrench 1 1
Sore Thumbs Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Thanks for the info Wrench and Vernon. I really like the look of the new G2 and love the warranty. I would definitely consider one on my next purchase after reading this. I’ve only heard that the Rude has lower unit issues on the etec and G2. I live in NWA and I don’t think anyone here can do warranty work. I would have to go to southern Missouri. Which isn’t too far.

There isn't an outboard out there with more readily available and reasonably priced parts than Evinrude! Even back to the 1960's For Christ sake man, Mercury parts start becoming NLA (no longer available) as early as 7 years after their manufacture date. What other company in the world, besides a government based company, can justify an 86.00 O-RING ? Surely you are just trying to get me all fired up. Well it’s harder to get parts for an older one I do know that. Just like any vehicle, there becomes a time when they get older and you have to do some shopping to find what you need...

I get my basic maintenance done there each year. They did have an issue with a trim sensor part but I reached out to Fishinwrench and he was able to get it for me. Ulrich installed it. It is all about care and maintenance. I have a 1999 GMC 2500 Suburban with only 161,000 miles on it and it runs great. Care and maintenance helps. Then it is a matter of preference. Mike Thank you for your reply, here in Springfield the only place we’ve found to work on ours is sport boats but they usually have to order what we need. Thanks for not being a prick with your reply.

Clear back to the late 1950's. I have no special contacts or anything. I order/they arrive in a timely fashion. What part did you have trouble getting?
