The Gravois pack mule is slow on steering cables though.... LOL

Only when the ground is frozen.  Things in the boating industry move considerably faster during the season.

Your main lag time was over livewell reconfiguration.  Nobody who loves themselves as much as I do is gonna pick a fight with 30 year old bassboat plumbing when the snow is flying.  :P

Nothing inherantly wrong with Mercury motors.  It's the company that is behind them that hacks me off.    As big as they are they could afford to do a lot better job, and take more time to perfect things.  But as with all things Mercury, they just gotta be the fastest.  Fastest on the water....and fastest on THE MARKET.    When you rush to get something out on the market, and then charge customers heavily for the mistakes you made by doing so.... That's just rotten.

Thank you for your reply, here in Springfield the only place we’ve found to work on ours is sport boats but they usually have to order what we need. Thanks for not being a prick with your reply.

Ol' wrench isnt a prick. He's just firm on his knowledge and convictions about the marine industry. Some of us take his jabs as him being nice.

TinBoats BassClub.  An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Wrench is spot on, I am a die hard Mercury guy always have been. Chevrolet is the same way always will be. But there are things the huge corporations screw up and they know it. I Drive Chevy trucks, but if you ask me what if I have to turn a wrench on a vehicle what manufacture I want to work on I promise you it wont be Chevrolet or American for that matter. I apprenticed under a Multi Manufacture Master Mechanic and he taught me Jap engineering.   They have it figured out and need to learn us dumb Americans a thing or three. I think that this drive to first is killing us, rather than make a good product from the start get it out on the market and fix it later It happens in all industries today, equipment, cars, boats. I think we would be better off if we tested and actually did tests in actual real world situations with people that use it test them, then the government is involved making everything  " safe " and  " idiot proof " is no wonder we are suffering in sales and design. You have to put a tag on a hairdryer, Warning do not use in the shower. It is no wonder we aren't building the best anymore.

Latest news from Mercury is that they are dumping the Opti-max/Pro XS.  No more 2-stroke anything from Mercury going forward.  Good luck getting OEM parts for them after the warranty period on the last production line of 2-strokes plays out.

Just as well AFAIC.

There’s a lot of truth in this and, a lot of Japanese companies build right here in the USA. It’s completely possible to build and engineer here as evidenced by Toyota, Honda and Nissan along with Yamaha.

Different culture and mindset for the Japanese based companies. Longer term gets more consideration versus quarterly financial reports. Stock market related pressures influence a lot of decisions on timing for too many companies.

heaven help us if the Germans get into outboards....

If Honda outboards run anything like their 4 wheelers I'm surprised their isn't a bigger following for them, only see a handful of them on the water.

I have a 1997 4 stroke 40 on my duck boat. Absolutely dependable. Endearing quality for use in frequently cold, crappy and isolated backwaters...
