Rodmaker Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Two weeks to retirement. After vacationing on the rock for 38 years, the wife and I will be building a home on Pioneer Point. (point 10 aunts creek). We will be full time residents. My Ozark Anglers hat and tee shirt have been with me when I fished Alaska, Canada, California, Florida, Louisiana and many other spots in between. I must say that I am proud to be a member of this forum and consider many to be my friends, even though I don't personally know you. I look forward to finally moving down there and meeting some of you folks. Sometimes, dreams do come true. PS: I will be needing some new fishing buddies. dblades Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 I've been retired longer than I worked, barely have time to fish. Congratulations on the big event. skeeter 1
motoman Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Congrats there Rod!..........definitely exciting times for yah.🎣
vernon Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 As of March 3st I've been retired for five years. Depending upon one's perspective, I was lucky or unlucky enough to retire on my 60th birthday. I don't know if we'll relocate but haven't done anything yet as Kathy is still working and has a couple more years to go. After all, somebody has to finance my golf and fishing habits while providing me with the lifestyle to which I have become accustomed! After five years on the lam, the only two things that I can tell you for sure is that the pay sucks but the hours are terrific. Enjoy the spoils of all those years of hard work and, if you're like me, you'll never take a moment of it for granted. You're gonna have a blast! Congratulations. liphunter Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Congratulations Rodmaker. I myself am 60 and after 32 years on the RR I am 3 months and change from taking that step myself. My wife is happy for me but at the same time mildly irritated at the thought of me laying in bed while she gets ready for work. I reassured her I won't be laying in bed. My plan is to get up everyday and covertly follow quillback around until learn how to catch fish. I have the fishing part down pretty good. It's the catching part I'm struggling with. lol Patlock, snagged in outlet 3, magicwormman and 4 others 7 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???

Well, enough to keep Kathy motivated to remain gainfully employed while I bask in the life of leisure! Although I think the real reason is she'd rather work than have to witness the on course carnage any more often than she already does. Seeing that money spent on balls and clubs just go totally to waste is more than she can bear on a personal level........ snagged in outlet 3 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." It's the catching part I'm struggling with. lol And therein lies the rub. A few tips: You will immediately discover that bragging about what a "great time" you had today is the ultimate no-no. Misery is the motto. You must convince her that every day presents a monumental challenge to you both physically and mentally and that this retirement deal "just ain't what it's cracked up to be." At times you will deceive to the point of stating that you actually wish you were still working - that's just how disappointing this post employment life really is. (A significant side benefit of this technique is that it can subliminally create doubt in her own mind regarding her own retirement - potentially buying you even more priceless days of fun in the sun.) THE FOLLOWING IS ESSENTIAL TO YOUR VERY SURVIVAL! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! You MUST acquire Oscar level theatrical skills so that before she leaves in the morning you can convincingly mope around about all the hard work that awaits you on this most challenging of days. Maybe even worse than yesterday as if that's even possible. Then, upon her return home, you must be capable of limping around equally effectively so as to convince her that the days work almost killed you (even though all you did was ride around on the lawn tractor for an hour before you went fishing for the rest of the day). In other words, you must become a total and complete fraud in every aspect of your daily life - and the sooner the better. Enjoy! big c, Quillback, james and 9 others 3 9 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." George Carlin "The only money ever wasted is money never spent." Me.
MOPanfisher Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 I will receive a 30 year pin this year, and am getting closer to retirement eligible. However I don't see myself moving anywhere. From my house I can hit, stockton, pomme, truman, and LOZ in an easy day trip. I am quite happy on my little piece of rocks and brush. I have a sneaking suspicion that when I retire I will go from a 40 hr work week to 60 or more. liphunter and vernon 2
