Bet they had already crunched numbers to forecast this prior to making the move. Gun people don't realize how few they are in comparison to the real people.  This announcement probably also brought 15 minutes of free advertising hosted by all the anti-Dick's ranting against them. Some folks that never bought any thing there before probably did buy stuff in support of the anti-gun policy.

Was in Dick's in Osage Beach last night.  They have the biggest stock of kayaks and boards that I have ever seen anywhere.  I asked one of the guys if they'd been selling alot of them and he said it has been crazy.  I bet they have over 200 (of just kayaks) in stock, not to mention the stand up boards and canoes.

Academy Sports has a bunch to.  Stinking kayaks are showing up in all my hidey holes.  And choking the rivers.

I am an avid hunter and a 20 yr. NRA member.  I could frankly give a total flip what Dick's policy is on anything gun related. They are such a miniscule amount of any gun sales in this country it would not even approach 1%.  This is about me and my clients only for a change.  I used over 100 bags of trout worms last year mostly purchased on Berkley's Capt. Program, but when I can get them for a buck a bag I'm on board.   Not going to mean a durn thing to the future of guns and not going to mean a durn thing to either Berkley or Dicks in the long run.

16 bags for $15.39 delivered in 3 days means a lot to me.

and to be honest I half way though this would make Phil some money too....I mean if he bought 16 jars of powerbait for $15.39, an Duane bought 16 jars, and Ryan bought 16 jars etc I figured he could about quadruple the money by reselling them.  I kinda figured this might be cheaper than he buys them for to resell.
