The Ned rig did it. I seen more fish die from that bait due to the fact the fish can eat it so fast and swallow it.

I've caught or have been with buddies who have 100's on the Ned and I have never seen one gut hooked.  I hear it all the time but just haven't seen it.

I won't pretend that's the same everywhere, for everyone, but generally it's not as bad as tubes or split shots.

Doesn't matter what it ate, or where it was hooked, if you aren't extremely careful in hot weather you will kill fish. Especially on a deep lake.

I can probably count on two hands the number of gut or gill hooked fish I have had on a Ned rig, don't know how many Ned rig bass I have caught, but it's easily over a thousand.  Plus the ones I've seen caught on it by people fishing with me.  It just doesn't happen.  I can't explain it, you'd think they would swallow that little bait down, but they don't.  I use almost exclusively cut Zinkers and Dave's heads with a #2 hook.

C-rigs, Texas rigs, jerk baits, crankbaits - now those are lures and methods where I have problems with them swallowing it.

I don't fish the Ned rig because of the low hooking mortality, I fish it because it just flat out works sometimes better than anything else I could fish.

We're all going to kill some fish just by catching them, we just should all try and minimize the mortality by doing the best we can to minimize hook damage and take care of them as best we can when we put them in a livewell.

True.  The way they're eating the deep crankbaits right now you have to be careful just unhooking one.  I had one get the back treble in the gill last week.  Ended up releasing it and it took off in a hurry.  We fished that same area for almost an hour and I never saw a floater so I think it made it.  I hate seeing that happen, but that's the only way we could catch em.

I bought some live well lid vents a couple of years ago, and now practically beg others to get a set when we are visiting before and after trips.

May be several versions out there, I don't know - and I am certainly not advertising for these in particular.

Just wanted to give an idea.

No more ice, the air flow takes care of everything.

I have one of those in my live well lid as the lid is not big enough for 2...I will say this my live well doesn't smell moldy or musty anymore.

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

Only times I’ve seen fish swallow the hook is when someone isn’t paying attention to their line and the fish has the bait for too long before hook set.

I have to also agree with Quill. The Ned is just not a fish killer and as Champ said. The way they were caught had nothing to do with their death, what so ever.
