I have slept on this a few nights but it still makes my blood boil thinking about it.  I had a great week at Taney last week.  But boy last Saturday was stupid.  I stay down lake at a resort and as I'm getting my boat back out of the dock that freaking Jet Boat comes by, the wave it throws darn near swamped my boat under the dock, it took 2 of us to try to hold onto the dock and boat to try and minimize the damage. Then as I run up the lake I start seeing the Kayak's......dear lord the Kayaks.  If there was 1 there was a hundred of them.  And they are in the middle of the lake, all the way across the lake etc.  Man by the time I got past about 90 of them I was at Fall Creek and there were more in the middle of the lake......couldn't take it anymore I started hollering at them to get out of the middle of the darn lake.   Those aren't like big stable kayak's either, they are small and narrow ones.  And I can't believe they put kids that look like they are 4 or 5 years old in those things in 48 degree water temps with 4 units running.  Sorry I'm ranting on, I'm not grumpy old man I promise.  I'm only 41.  And I love seeing other people on the lake and waving and having family time, that's how I grew up down there and just love it.  But man that lake has changed ALOT and I for one miss the 80's and 90's on Taney.  Rant over.

I’m going to have respectfully disagree a bit.

I don’t condone a group of kayaks or any other group of boats choking off a passage. That said, they have as much right as anybody to be in the middle, side, or wherever as someone in a boat (again, this assumes a large group isn’t blocking the way). Now, the kayakers also need to accept the risk with being on the same water as motor boats so it cuts both ways.

Respectfully back, have you been on Taney much of late?  I have been coming multiple times a year, every year since 1985.  I just spent 8 days there last week and it's just gotten crazy, especially with the Kayak's.  I totally understand they have every right to be there and enjoy the lake but I just wish they would stay off to the side. There are times they basically stretch the entire width of the lake as far not being able to get a boat past them with docks and downed trees. Taney is a different animal with the current, cold water and especially the FOG.  It's not very wide anyhow and is seeing increasing boating traffic.  On top of all that there are some places on the Upper lake such as the narrows, fall creek, short creek, lookout island and above trophy run that require a very narrow area to boat thru.  Multiple times I saw these places completely clogged shut with kayaks.   Did I mention FOG?  It seriously in my opinion is getting pretty crazy and dangerous.

I was there a few weeks ago and didn't have near that many problems with kayakers. They were around, but they were far from clogging up the river. It'd take 50 kayakers to pull that off on most areas of Taneycomo due to how wide it is and I doubt I saw that many kayakers during my four day stay. I'm on the Gasconade all the time so maybe I am just used to running in to groups of floaters on much smaller bodies of water and don't think much of it anymore.

well we have hit prime vacation season but more importantly it was freaking HOT last week with heat indexes close to 100 on several days so that may have had a ton to do with all of them being out.  Can't blame them, it felt good on the water, especially close to the dam when the 4 units started running.

I do have to say that is a narrow body of water to be tossing a big boat like that around. And I didn't see a PFD on anyone on that boat or anyone belted in. If they hit an object and it compromises that boat and it goes down.......

I had to pull a swamped kayaker out of the lake near Cooper Creek last week. Guy was freezing and definitely afraid. I saw some get caught around Trophy Run, too, and couldn't get out safely as the water rose. They needed help and some guy up there assisted. I think it's a nice idea to have recreation like that, and sure they have every right to be there, but I agree with Travis. It's getting to be dangerous. I've been coming to Taney since I was a baby, and it's always been mainly a fishing lake, not a recreational lake like LOZ, TRL, etc.

I saw a jetskier hauling around by Monkey Island, as fast as he could go, last week, too. I'm sure you all know how crowded it gets in that area. Why on earth would you want to jetski anywhere above the Gold Mine?? Too dang cold!

I saw jet ski's putting in at the MDC ramp by the dam.  Two of them with the water off.  A dad and his young boy.  Drove right through people fishing.

Been going there for 50 years and it's getting crazy.  Not just Taney either. TR is getting nuts.  We were parked by the diving bluff waiting for our daughter to jump a couple times.  A guy jumps off his boat and starts the back stroke right at us.  I kept waiting for him to stop but he got close enough I said "Hey Captain....Don't ram your head into my boat"  He looked completely startled and just headed out into the main lake.  Nobody on his boat even saw him.

Later at Long Creek a guy is pulling a boy on a tube the kid falls off just south of the bridge right in the middle of the channel.  The guy keeps driving and pulls up to the marina and I said "Hey your kid is out the main channel"  He turns around with a shocked look on his face and then ignores the no wake area and blows out there to get the kid.  NUTS!!!
