Bushbeater, this has pics and can help you identify many of the sunfish we have and where they can be found.  https://mountainstomarsh.com/2012/02/15/sunfish-id-and-species-list/

@Ham go into this guys blog and look at his redeye bass slam trip posts! Looks like he scooped me on trying for the redeye species. Still want to do this type of trip. Maybe can convince that @BilletHead guy that fly fishing creeks for native bass species is worth the trip out east!

Nice tie! Lots of time in that one. There are some big longears in Big River and tributaries....but I wont eat them. They eat a ton of small insects and have a really high lead content according to the former stream biologist who sampled and tested them for lead content. One of the most colorful fish in the ozarks, next to the darter species.

Yikes! Well that explains a lot…. Back in the day a shore lunch of Mineral Fork Longears was part of the routine.

Last weekend the Longears were nipping at my Whopper Plopper hooks. I only stuck this first fish, I’m thinking it’s a Green/Longear hybrid?

The second is a hybrid, Longear/Bluegill? It was caught in southern Illinois.

Identifying hybrid sunfish is wonderfully confusing.

My sis owns a party bus... Just sayin if you guys need a donkey mule to haul all your gear around... <stares at Marty>  :P

A friend of mine "collects" race tracks that he has been to and seen races. He and I were talking about how we can get together and him having another new track. I mentioned the Barber Motorsports complex in Alabama. That track is one of my favorites and the racing is usually very good. Also the Cahaba river runs within a couple of miles from the track. That would be the home of the Cahaba redeye bass ;)! Two birds one stone my friends.
