Stocking of rainbows would turn into feeding of browns.

That would be like the brook trout in the Norfork. They become Brown trout candy.

From what I gathered, the first two stockings were trial runs, so to speak. Shane told me they thought they'd only live to be 7 years old..well, not the case. There is a lot that goes into it from the MDC standpoint. First thing I think of is how would a surplus of voracious browns effect the ecosystem of the lake?

I understand that part but I don't think the numbers they stocked were huge.  What I would like to see is, put a thousand every 3 years in.  That shouldn't be enough to do to much damage but would put a chance of a world record at any point in the future.  The other thing is, I think people sort of forget some times that the there is ALOT of good, almost untapped water past the branson landing.  I'm talking, wide, deep beautiful water with plenty of cover to grow a giant world record brown trout.  And they have plenty more to eat on down there than stocker rainbows, shad, crappie, bluegill etc.

@Travis Swift I completely agree. There have been 13,000 stocked so far. I'm just playing devil's advocate. It can sustain some big, big fish. I bet there are some absolute giants down by Powersite.

With all of the 20+ feet deep water and piles of wood, I don't know how there can't be some giants living there lives down there. That's A LOT of water to hide in! Member @Trav has several old posts in the Lower Taneycomo section of the forum about how he would target nice browns down lake in that stuff back before the floods struck.

I've always wondered about venturing down that way and maybe spending a day down there... Never seem to do it though.  Wouldn't surprise me if the next record was somewhere down that way though.

It's a lot bigger than most folks think.

Yeah, I've only ever fished a bit down past coopers creek by boat.  I did fish one of the creeks down by the landing once but didn't have much luck.

I wonder if they have ever shocked fish down that way, and if they haven't, why not?

There are some big browns down there. The timber on the bluffs anywhere down lake..whew. I had a tank rise at my jerkbait across from the landing last summer. 15-20 lb fish. Problem with going downlake is there are a lot of bass that get in the way.
