Even a couple false morels left in the woods. We won't chance them but some do. There are no old bold mushroom hunters :) ,thumbnail_0410191343.jpg

              A few more today,

Not a basket full but a little turtle shell full. Holding out for the mother load. Hope it happens,

Walked a couple hours Wednesday and found 17 morels. Guy in the Potosi paper reported  finding over 100 in a spot within  about a 40' radius. Seems he might have a better hunting spot or is a better mushroom hunter!

I always walk my 10 acres, and a few neighboring properties to see if I can find some, and I usually do find just barely enough to garnish a meal or two.  I can't relate to folks that make a sport out of it, driving 30+ miles to some special place and becoming the first meal of the new batch of ticks.

I have pretty much the same mentality about blackberries.  If they are right here by my house, then heck yeah let's pick them and eat them, but I'm not gonna burn up a tank of gas and a whole box of Band-Aids over a batch of blackberries when the ones at the grocery store/fruit market are reasonably priced, prettier, and taste better.

Morels are good.....but are they truly better than the $4.00 portabella's at the store?  I don't think so.

So it's all just the whole Hunter/gatherer, "I found this thing in the woods and now I'm going to eat it" mental thing, isn't it?

I fall very much into that category FW.  My wife loves morels, I like them well enough but since I don't turkey hunt it gives me a reason to out wandering through the woods for a couple hours at a time.  BTW I suck at finding them.Ticks, no problem apparently they don't appreciate blood with chemo poisons it it.  Blackberries, if they are good ones I would go a fair ways for, trying to circumvent that by growing my own.
