See, I said the boat was the handicap and both Al and 'Wrench agree.   Tie that thing up to an anchor and fish. Or put the rod away go boating.

You need someone to handle the boat if you want to float a river, and fly fish for anything  at the same time...No park & wade or walk and wade. It can be highly effective..It is a team effort though...Set your boat mate up a comfy cast away..and beat the crap out of it for a half hour until you switch. You will catch more than if you fish solo....But most want to fish solo.

I like to fish my way upstream on slower creeks and rivers, using the canoe only for crossing deep pools and long boring stretches. Then drift back and hit the good spots again, or fish them with different stuff if the initial pass wasn't very productive.  Usually by the time I head back the lower stretches have had time to recoup.   Often I'll spook a good fish or two on the way up and I just remember where it was and sneak up on it later.

He’s not fibbing.... I am pretty sure I know that stretch-best big fish spots on that drainage...double hard to get a 20 when it’s a neosho strain...always used a float tube in a stream, can’t cover much water but stealth is amazing fish just come right up too you...most people hit the holes but fish feed in the shallow fast stretches between holes, water might be 15” deep, but fish will be there, rebel craws, tiny torpedoes, baby spooks, and at night black jitter bugs, want a heart attack? Big smallie blasting a top water at night!
