After fishing Bennett and Montauk for many years earlier in life I finally completed the Missouri trout park trifecta. Nice little park and I like that the stream is a lot more easily accessed without needing to wade to reach the best waters.  Caught the typical stocker dinks. Watched them stock some of the pools near the hatchery after the horn and none of those were big either.  Still fun as all seven I caught came on dry caddis or mayfly pattern flies. Haven’t been trout fishing in probably 6 years or so and it’s good to know I can still swing the long rod around.

I was there Friday on the way home from the great fly fishing expo in Branson  and hooked several on soft hackles fished "dry". I've fished RRSP regularly since '85  and the fish are seem to  be running smaller this year than in most years. All imported because of the extended hatchery remodel, I imagine that greater numbers of small fish can fit in the transport tank -equal numbers of trophy fish might make multiple trips necessary.

But I always tell folks to try Bennett because it's so much better and the fish are so much bigger.  Wind always blows at RR and the water is either too high or too low for good fishing. The camps there (RR) seem to be maxed out in recent weekends, so either people ain't listening to me or they come for the hiking.

Water looks great. I do like RRSP. Sounds like a good time getting back to trout fishing. I noticed that you didn't mention Maramec Springs in the list of trout parks. Maybe since that one is not state run. I never fished that park much myself even though it was closer to our house in Columbia. Didn't like paying the extra money for stockers.

I’ve fished Meramec Spring once probably 20 year ago or more. Didn’t think much of it.

Their website says $3 just like the other parks charge.

I don't fish there often either but recall them adding a $2 fee that went to the James Foundation on top of the daily trout permit.

@Seth should be able to confirm if they still add that $2 fee.

Maramec trout tags are the same as the others, $3 for adults and $2 for kids. They do charge for parking though, which is $5 for a daily pass or $35 for a yearly pass.

I made a post the weekend before last about a quick trip down to Maramec Springs. Easy fishing and good quality. Didn't take me more than 45 minutes to put four nice ones on the stringer and I didn't get down till after 9am. Fish were cleaned and I was heading home shortly after 10am. No need to fight that buzzer crowd just to catch stockers down there. It makes the fishing more enjoyable when you're not crowded.
