We rolled up to THE Lake O the Pines full of Hope and Expectation.

Still tweaking on Waldo which cost a few minutes, but soon enough we were on the water.

John Got First fish of the Trip. Channel Cat.

John needed a yellow bass to catch every member of the true bass family. I have not caught a (true) White Perch yet. Lake O the Pines has plenty of Yellow Bass, but could we find him one.

I had “technical” issues with my portable depth finder. I made a snap decision to buy the least expensive Lowrance unit. We used it as a portable unit until I can get it mounted. It didn’t help us.

When deep was unsuccessful and boring, I went to a main lake point. Quickly, we were into fish. Then Bang! I got a yellow bass. Tiny. But target species acquired.

John kept catching fish, but Bluegill after Bluegill. Then,  he got a Spotted Bass. Small but the first Spot caught in Waldo

Then, I caught a second yellow bass. It happens.

Day Two came too early and too late. I was chomping at the bit to get started. 1000 hours of stuff I wanted to do and maybe 20 hours of fishing time.

My Main Target Species was Choupique or as we dubbed them Swamp Musky (trademark pending). So I headed for the first slough off the main river I ran across.

I immediately started catching largemouth off Cypress trees on Humdinger Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits. I love Home Cookin in the Dirty South.

I found teeth, but no Bowfin encountered.

John did pretty well with the baitcaster. He had minimal previous experience and it is a challenging environment.

You guys know John as a micro fisher, but you should really call him “Big Fish John”

Later , we ran up river and started long pole jigging brush tops. I’m not sure if John had done this before or is just a really quick study. Heck, maybe I’m a Good teacher.

We wanted to catch all we could and keep a handful for Supper.

We got a Dinner Double from the first Top we tried. Some tops were a fish or two. Some tops were 10 lost Jigs and no fish caught. Some tops were a few fish.
