White River Lodge/Table Rock Lake

Well they were running this morning, had not seen a boat since Sunday, but I guess enough is enough.  Started at 7 this morning with two boats coming from the North pulling into Big Cedar Hollow.  I'm guessing guide trips.  It was really raining and 34 degree at the time.  They came right out and one pulled onto the point in front of the Lodge and the other went up Persmmion Hollow.  Boat in front of the Lodge had 4 peep's so it pretty much had to be a tour.

About 8, two more boats came from the North and one went into Clevenger and the other into Persimmion.  It has stopped raining but is still misting and if you don't have good rain gear you are going to get really miserable pretty quick.  It's up to 36 degree.

On another note are you all seeing flocks of Robins?  The last two days there have been hundreds here.  I presume they think Winter is over and are in route back North, but I really have no idea.  I'd think getting a bug in this weather would be quite a bit or work.

My old house used to back up to a farm field and every winter whenever we had a brief warm spell the robins would be in there by the hundreds.  Weather would turn cold and they would disappear again.  Sometimes that would happen several times a winter.  I watched the scenario for 12 years.  Seems like they migrate north and south more often than just once a season.

Yep, this weather is just a bit too cold and wet to make the drive to TR or Beaver for that matter.  I have fished a couple of afternoons on the local BV lakes in the last week or two, fishing was slow, but did get a 5 lber slow rolling a spinner bait in deep water.  

Looks like the weather will warm enough that I might get out on one of the big lakes in a few days.  Dog days of winter are about over, it can still be cold out in February and March, but it's that time of year that the bigguns come out.  

Haven't seen any robins here.

Knock on wood. Outside of rain its been pretty mild. Haven't had to break ice on a pond yet. 

I'm hoping we can make it through without much worse than what we've had so far.

Really good friend of mine is an ornithologist in Kansas.  I emailed him about the robins and he said at this time of the year huge concentrations are in the Oklahoma, Arkansas, Southern, Mo/Kan region.   I thought they were strictly bug eaters but he said they also will eat certain cedar and bush berries this time of the year that grow in our region.

He also said unlike water fowl that will move North and South as weather permits, most song bird species do not, they just go one way.  They will however flock on these particular food sources this time of the year.

There's been plenty of Robins around this area of LOZ lately. Had hundreds this morning.We have not had Pelicans this fall or winter, kinda unusual.

The ones at my old house were definitely not eating plane material.   We went up and dug around and found worms and grubs  Thousands of them in a couple shovels full.

The pelicans usually will make an appearance somewhere around Big M in early spring but they only hang around for a week or two.
