oneshot 1 Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Good morning Phil I'm watching Radar now. I thought we was going to get hit hard today at 9AM but so far it is looking like it is going North of us but got some weather headed towards you from Oklahoma . Storms seem to bottle up right there in the corner of Oklahoma, I'm thinking because of the hills. Seen where our Son is opening up again but still working around this Coronavirus. oneshot

ness Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 We just had a heck of a blow here. Neighbors Bradford Pear snapped about 8 feet up the trunk. Now it's laying partly in my side yard. Lot's of pea sized hail too. After things calmed down I checked the garden and it made it through ok somehow. More on the way for us though. John

Quillback Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 My mom had three of those Bradford pears in her yard, storm came through and took them all out. They are a nice looking tree, but they don't last too many years before they get fragile. I'll never plant one myself. No damage here today, some heavy rain and a bit of hail and now it is sunny and windy. Weatherman says we have another round coming this evening.
ness Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 When the neighborhood was developed about 20 years ago the developer put a Bradford Pear in every front yard as part of the lot price. At the time most of us thought it was a good look and liked the idea. I even bought a second one for the other side of the driveway. Wouldn't do that again. I'd estimate there are about ⅔ of them left and practically none of them aren't without some kind of damage. I lost about ⅓ of one a couple years ago and had it cut down and the stump dug. Fought suckers for about a year. The other one survives so far. Won't be sad when it goes. They're nice looking for a few days in early spring, the rest of the time they're a pain with suckers and fruit. There are undeveloped areas around here where they are very thick. BilletHead 1 John
