wrench, I do a lot of fishing from shore. I fish near a launch ramp area sometimes on slow traffic days. I have seen many many times over the years boats pulling out ,they drive halfway up the parking lot, a guy reaches in the live well  ,buddy snaps a few pics, then he somehow manages to climb out of the boat with two handfulls of fish lip, sometimes dropping a fish or two in the process, then runs down to the bank and hurls the fish into the lake. Walks back to the truck and secures the boat on the trailer, then  they drive away. I walk over to where he threw the fish in, grab a couple floaters that swam back to the bank, desperately try to revive them and get them upright.  And sometimes these fish are not even keepers. I have saved a few ,I hope

Just 2 days ago this happened again. I watched a guy toss in a few bass off the ramp. I found a 13" lm, a giant red hook hole in it's face from someone who didnt know how to remove a hook obviously ,broken back I mean a bent crooked spine, swimming right into the bank. I tried to revive it, and  I threw it out further hoping it would swim the other way,it came right back. Tried to get it to dive down. It was done... probably heron poop now.

There might be a few reading this, that act like this. Please catch photo release , it's fine, but that means you catch the fish, take a pic, throw it back immediately, not 6 hours later in a parking lot miles from where you caught it. You are not being responsible in my opinion.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but it's called tourney x.  Just like the kayak guys use.  You can set up tourneys that last a day a weekend or a whole month.  5 longest total fish win... snap a photo, release immediately.  Pretty secure process involved as far as cheats go and all.  Can restrict it to one lake or open it to a couple or a few or nation wide.  For us it's be cool to have something like TR, BS and Stockton all included..7 day time frame... longest in inches 5 fish caught.  You can put money in the digital pot and depending on pot size have a lie detector for top 3 or something...idk,just a thought on how to still get that higher level of competition involved and widen the scope of possibilities and all fish are returned immediately where they are caught so the negative impact to the species is completely minimized.

Check out tourneyx site for more details and all the rules and processes... pretty cool.

I think using touneyx is a great idea for a solution to running modern bass tournaments. I’d love to see that become a thing around here.

If you voice any concerns regarding the relentless shuffling of bass, you are immediately catagorized (by the pro fisherman wannabes) as an anti-tournament, tree hugging idiot.   There's a handful around here that are reluctant to bring their boats to me for service...,so believe it or not they will have their dad, uncle, or brother drop it off and pick it up.   🙄 Whatever.

I've had many conversations/debates about it, and so far nobody has answered my favorite question, which is simply......If the amount of fish relocation going on NOW is not a problem, then at what point would you agree that it was?     Where can the line be drawn?    Even MDC elects not to reply to that question.

I fully agree. We are ruining a great fishery with all of the tournaments on LOZ. I feel like it gets more difficult every year to catch fish. There are lots of great fish on this lake for sure, but I feel like they are just becoming more and more difficult to find and catch.  It is well known that if you want to catch good sized retreads, you need to go to one place on this lake because there at least 4-5 tournaments (and often many more than that) out of that one location every week pretty much year round. The fish I catch there are usually decent sized fish, but they always look so sickly.

Even if the corps puts out an announcement on tournaments, I bet some will do whatever they want anyway and have them.

Slot limits? Limit/no tournaments mid April-mid May and hot summer months? Tournaments allowed every other year? MLF is an awesome format, but not feasible for most tournaments unfortunately. EVEN better thought......no wake board boats longer than 14' and cruisers bigger than 22' have to be used in reverse only unless putting on a boat lift or trailer.

It could be.  We have had the technology for years.  It doesn't require an "official" in each boat.

No more so than the weigh-in method.

Same thought. There's an element of trust with any format. Especially with all the multi ramp stuff now.

Wait, what? Is there an implication that fishermen may not be completely honest? Say it ain’t so.
