Are they an actual species, or just a genetic freak?  This one hung around here all day, but haven't seen it again since.   Just passing through?     I considered shooting it, but then questioned my reasoning of why......so I didn't.    Tried to get a decent pic but he wasn't gonna let that happen.   Just studied him through the scope at 45 yards.

Genetics. Used to see the black ones in White Plains NY. The numbers increased in the 15 yrs that my dad lived there.

Would love to have a mount. I mentioned on previous posts wanting a white and black one arranged as a ying yang symbol.

I have only seen one twice. Same deer southeast of here. Was a big deal. Every evening people would drive up and down the road looking into a specific field waiting for the deer to appear.

Did you hear the one when a young hunter shot two squirrels and took them to the taxidermist.  He said I want these stuffed.  And the taxidermist said you mean mounted?  And the young Hunter said no I want them side-by-side.  😂

There are more tree squirrel species in North America then we all realize and a slam for taking those species. Here is a neat podcast,

Thought that I have been seeing a squirrel that won't be in a squirrel slam. Today I had my best view and confirmed seeing the Delmarva fox squirrel. These guys are rare and protected. Think that I have seen three or four so far.

I've got one around here that is blacker than this one.   He/she is jet black top and bottom.  I thought it was a baby skunk at first.

I took my 5 year old out for her very first hunt this past weekend. We got one squirrel with my old .410. It was the first firearm I ever owned that I got for my birthday one year, when I was a kid, from my grandpa. I took her back to the place I killed my very first squirrel with the very same .410.

We walked a little ways. Saw a flock of turkeys (gobblers). Sat in the woods and ate a snack, and also killed a squirrel. It took a little convincing, but she finally came around and agreed to touch and carry it. All-in-all, I’d call it a successful trip. I’m hoping she will want to go again. And again. And again...
