Bushbeater Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I can imagine a Heron purposely going for someone. They get so pissed when you infringe on their fishing spot. That call they scream as they leave is like a F you SOB. snagged in outlet 3 1

When the sun goes down everything on the ground looks like a spider, and everything in the trees looks like monkeys. Flashlights just make it worse. There's no safe space. It is amazing how many wolf spiders I see with my head lamp light reflecting off those eight eyes. Never hooked a bat but had one hit a jig and drop it.
laker67 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Not only bats biting your fly line, herons squauking , and beavers slapping their tails behind you. I know for a fact that bears, cougars, and bigfoot have roamed the banks of taneycomo at night on the shoreline behind me. All were unaware of my presence in the water. snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Those herons squawking will scare the crap out of you. Had a beaver bump me in the dark at Taney. At least I think it was a beaver. I didn’t snag the heron it just flew through the fly line and went down. I’m sure it was hilarious me talking to a pissed off heron in the dark while trying to untangle it. laker67 1

tjm Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 If you concentrate on the fish all that other stuff will go unnoticed, and you don't have to worry about sunscreen either. (but if thinking about all those hazards means fewer folks on the water, there are also Chupacabras and Ozark Howlers out there)

My buddy had one bite through his waders while teal hunting. I actually get more worried about otters while wading, especially when I can no longer see them.
