Oh no, the ivory billed whistler is the true trophy of every hunt!

We always shoot coots if they get close. They actually taste darn good. In fact, taste better than any diver.

I can’t take any of the divers

Shot a ring neck the other day and gagged while cleaning it. Smelled so bad.

I'll shoot coots if they are flying...Good target practice...and they taste OK in gumbo.

Coots are good. Buddy shot 15 in three shots in NoDak lol. Brought them home and cooked them. I would've thought they were a nice, plump dabbler. Shocked.

Never have tried grilling coot, will have to wack a few and try it. Have some cheep Super XX steel to burn.

Headed to NWMO Weds-Sunday next week,  with a reservation at Fountain Grove on Saturday 11/14. Latest is that FG is holding 40,000 ducks, 56,000 at Grand Pass, 25,000 on Swan so I might have a chance to kill a duck next week! Some snows, and specks too.

There are a lot of ducks here right now. Should be a banger for a few days!

I know that Scott Leysath on the cooking show "Dead Meat" has cooked up coot. I would be interested to try them.

Nope.  Not today.

I've cooked a lot of things that had I been starving would have been really good.  Not starving though, so I don't want any coons, opossums, groundhogs, old fox squirrels, bear, sheep (not the same as lamb), goat that's older than a year or wild hog bigger than 150 lbs. live weight.  Or deer or anything else that hasn't been handled as if intended for human consumption.  Never ate a coot.  Don't plan to start at this late date.

I could change your mind on old squirrels that have been braised. Oh that's right you turn your nose up to wild turkey thighs and legs. So maybe your hard head will not let it happen 😁. Smiley face you see that?
