oneshot Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Seems like anyone anymore is put down for catching Carp. I was the other day. Use to be we put out lines baited with Cotton Seed Cake just for Carp and would pay to fish for them at Pay Lakes. Use to see them in the stores. oneshot Terrierman 1
MoCarp Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Real hostility began when the whole Asian jumping carp started in the 90s.....to most people buff, suckers commons Are all just worth tossing on the bank and doing so Will make fishing better for “ good fish” That mentality is like killing off al the rabbits and squirrels to get more deer on your property. most waters common carp in our area ( buff too) are shot down by BFers in the spring when the biggest individuals are removed and rarely used for food at best dumped on uncle needs back 40 or worst at the boat ramp Proper prep buff and carp are good eating tjm 1 MONKEYS? what monkeys?
MoCarp Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 A carp of buff about 6 to 8 pounds is the best tasting MONKEYS? what monkeys?

FishnDave Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Flyfishing folks have started targeting carp more and more often, and carp have become quite popular. Books have been written about how to go about it, and what flies to use, etc. Carp are omnivorous and opportunistic. Put a fly in front of them, there's a good chance they'll eat it. I've caught a fair number...its a LOT of fun! My biggest Common Carp so far is 35", 22 lbs. This one was 33", ~ 18.5 lbs This Mirror Carp wasn't big, but had a pretty cool scale pattern: Johnsfolly, Greasy B and MoCarp 3

Johnsfolly Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I don't typically target carp but enjoy catching them particularly on light line. My two largest carp were 9 lbs 5 oz and 12 lbs 13 oz. Both were caught using a #10 hook with a piece of redworm and 4# test line. I had to stay behind some brush to not spook these fish and lightly pitch the bait in front of them. They would see and follow the bait to the bottom and I would set the hook anticipating when I thought they had the bait. Fought them all over that small pond. Lots and lots of fun. FishnDave 1
Quillback Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I've seen a lot of them on the clear end of Beaver the last couple of years. I would think that if a guy baited an area you could have some good carping. Lots of public bank access on that end of the lake, it would be perfect for fishing for them. I'm not interested in them myself, but the opportunity is there.
