Lately it seems that we either loosely regard definitions in our reporting or make up new definitions to suit our narratives. I have been casually paying attention to the Metal object found in Utah. In case you haven't seen it, here it is (was).

90[1].jpg

Every article written about this has referred to it as a monolith. By definition a monolith is a stone object and not a metal one.

monolith
[ˈmänəˌliTH]
NOUN
  1. a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument.

Cambridge dictionary definition - a large block of stone standing by itself that was put up by people in ancient times

Merriam Webster -

Definition of monolith

1 : a single great stone often in the form of an obelisk or column A granite monolith stands at the center of the park.

So it just seems that the reporters either don't know what the true definition of monolith is or that they want to invoke 2001: A space Odyssey, suggest that this is either alien, or that it is(was) ancient. As more was said about the object, it disappears. We may never know what this really was, but in my mind it never was a monolith.

Rant over !

Looks human made...  stainless steel.  Could be an old movie set prop...it would be cool if someone could figure out what movie it was in.

Well @Johnsfolly it is supposed to be gone now and just a pile of rocks where it once was. So maybe some devine intervention fixed it? Have you been praying for the intervention? My first thought was this. Kansas Album Monolith. Guess what I had it!

The press does that crap all the time. And as soon as the first report uses the 'cool' term it's nothing but echo after that.

I smell a publicity stunt of some kind. Somebody said there were three books in the Space Odyssey series and the next is 2021. This has not been independently confirmed by nNN, the ness News Network.

It's not being petty. Words have meanings which anyone can easily find in any dictionary, I think most reporters are functional illiterates;  grammar used in the media is often wrong, spelling is worse than mine and homophones used improperly.

Seems to be the leading thought on what this object was. You would think that the producers would chime in. Second thoughts are some sort of performance art.

I stated on the What are you listening to thread that Kansas was the first concert that I have ever attended. I enjoyed the show!
