I am very thankful you and the kid are safe.

Actually, this was a great learning experience for him. Boats do not mean all is well. Attention must be paid. How you react matters.

I think this incident was an isolated failure.  I am not giving up on lithium yet.  They are going to warranty this one.  The next one I buy will definitely be a iron phosphate chemistry, they are considerably safer.

Glad you got out with the kiddo Cody, stinks about the battery, but as others have said glad you caught it in time... 

I had a little drone battery flame up inside a charging bag on me once... they can be fickle little fire starters for sure.
