Spikes Red – Speedy Worm Online Store

I always think of maggots for hard water aka ice fishing situations or European style fishing catapult chumming situations.

Most times a big gob of worms works wonders 🤣

80) Shortnose Gar,  tried for eel in the Mississippi  River. I found lots of Shortnose Gar instead. Lots.

Having grown up fishing for eel and running my grandfathers commercial eel weir, if you are not fishing for them at night you definitely want to do this. They are mostly inactive during the day. we use to use drop lines thrown from the shore as they dont get gnarly knots/birdsnests from the eel spinning as you bring them in. Additionally.. in the fall they (mature adults) begin their run to the Sargasso Sea and after a rain storm they always filled our baskets to the brim.

Nice! I'll catch one someday even if I have to wash my hands afterwards 🤣.

I was checking out the state record fish list for Arkansas, and noticed there is a shad known as the "Alabama Shad".  Never heard of them until I read that.  Record is 2 lbs. 13 oz caught in the Ouchita river in 1997.

Apparently they are a species in peril.

I've done some research for targeting these guys. No solid plans yet. I want to target the various redeye bass species and may go for these guys as well.

Pretty jealous of your eel catches. I'll get there. One of these days.

I've caught maybe three eels on the lower Osage at night fishing with worms.  They slime everything.
